EDITOR : I am aware th I my article in Edgefield Advert?s I of 7th March calling attention' [grand jury to wrongs upon the r records is sought to be used as p litical capital on the grounds th I had no right to mention the ca becauso I had leceived my mon for said survey of Meriwether Hi School District. Surely we i ourselves great injustice as inti ligent citizens not to concedo tb our other personal rights stand a bulwara for our monetary righ My declarations,of principles a purposes in this matter show the course I have pursued that have sought redress or rebuke j the security of individual rigl and tho public good rather th monetary rights. I repeat, I Reese and others stood as secur for that money, but when ? Nicholson sought to annul act tract with Reese and others af that contract bad been carr out, because I was the surve; employed, I saw plainly snch IT IS T: BEG-IN QA And I have a LANDRETH'S . -which are i market Also a Fres! Irish Potatoes. O. 8HEPI !forts heaped indignity upon those (citizens and invaded my constitu tional personal rights- and also slandered my work. I saw plainly that it was official rule of those ?men and myself because of spite at rae. Then for any to say that I in this matter should have been I satisfied with merely the money I got after a wrangling delay, but shows ignorance of the circum stances and want of comprehension of a purpose to best serve society by righting current wrongs. I first made repeated appeals to Mr. Nich olson to right the matter then, to public sentiment to prevail upon ! him, and then to the grand jury in August last to have him right the records and comply with that contract. That grand jury care fully i uves ti ga ted the case and the two surveys giving both sides a hearing aud decided that I was the proper person to be paid by county funds.. In their form of saying as much they were very courteous to Nicholson, yet had he complied, satisfaction would have been given to the demands I have ever mada that he 'should recognize the coutract with Reese and others, pay me out of school fund and let such be placed upon the records instead of the other accouut &c. Yet after all this, we had to sue the County Board of Education for the mon ey, which Nicholson then paid but exults in saying he paid m( out of bis own funds and still re fused as I demanded to place m\ account and map on record and t< return to school fund the exc?s he paid over what I charged to di the work. Being personally acquaints* [with these circumstances and im pressed that Nicholson should' di I the right as requested by the Au gust grand jury, I felt constrained to call the attention of the Marci [grand jury to the matter in era [phatic terms. Yes, possessed o some intelligence, some pride o thought for the public good ant I great reverence for the rtght at al times, I have been outspokei against such measures' as tend to wards misapplication of publii funds and are inimical tb tax-pay ere and personal rights. This '. suppose has given offence and. ti close my mouth I have had an of ficial to strike at my privilege t< work for whom I please, and henci my persistent aggressive protea to the last grand jury to protec individual rights for the publii welfare. Mi. Nicholson says the; tied over the matter without find ing merit for action. > The facts I here present of m; right to survey that school distric under the contract Reese and otb ers made with Nicholson as ohaii man of School Board, that the Ac gust grand jury presentments no1 on record say after investigate that I waB the proper surveyor t be paid out of the school furn Nicholson's refusal to comply wit same, his persistent avowal that should noe have made the eurve after it baa been established t his own admission of contract th; he had no legal or moral right 1 prohibit me, that the Board ha tn be sued before he would reco nize the contract and pay me, th be publicly states he.paid me 01 of his own funds and thus charg tho county funds more than n Women as Well as Me Are Made Miserable by Kidney Trouble. Mr. Nicholson in his last article would make much of my stating that I had placed in his possession my map, because, I then left out low I had had it placed there -through a friend as I had said in my first article, and that he and tfiat friend now say Nicholson did not have it in his possession for any time. Yet while every thing.was fresh to each of us, at the time our friend returned the map to me, Nicholson admitted to mo that he had kept it awhile, and to my purposely pointed ques tion how long did Nicholson have the map, our friend replied he was not certain but said several days. This I stated at the outset, (to be denied by Nicholson at this late day), although he had lambled considerably in his replies to Reese and myself for disavowals. Of course it is sought to make this Bland denial a pointer against me for S. M. Smith, Jr., who has seen proper to enter libel suit against me on account of my last aggres sive protest to have Nicholson right the records. Mr. Nicholson knew that this suit had been en tered when he wrote his last arti cle with the expressed avowal ol favoring Smith, thus again using his official prominence to biae public sentiment which under tht circumstances is but another in vasion of my personal right tc be left unmolested in my business or other relations, by public offi cial conduct. If, after thus truly stating rn] cause, any should persist in shov ing the money consideration a me as the only thing I had a righ to demand, I would most respect fully advise that such shots bu waste powder as they fall beueat] my platform of common sens from which I view the publi good.
