Buy the Florence Wagons, for sale by W. \V. Adams. Gov. Sheppard is out again to the delight of many friends. Horses which are worked daily should be curried, at least once a year. Rev Nr. Leitch comrneuced a series of meetings at McKeudree's on Sundays. Raw onions will cure typhoid fever; mash 'em and tie 'em to the bottom of your feet. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Cantelou have moved to the old Cantelou homestead a mile from town. Secure some of farmer Walton's Oats before they are all sold, at W. W Adams's. Look out for au early frost and a bard winter; hickory nuts and acorns are uuusually abundant this year. Mr*. Sula Hunter and niece, Miss Mattie Glover, after a pleas ant visit to friends in Edgefield, have returned to Atlanta. Mr. R. H. Mime of ourstown last week had a hen to hatch out 16 chicks from 9 eggs. This is a sure Bign of a mild winter. Mrs. George D. Tillman and her daughter, Mrs, Bailey of Clark's Hill, are visiting of Col. and Mrs. James H. Tillman. If you want to grow fine onions plant now. Landre.h's sets jutt received at J. L. Mime'. Mr. Ginse Wood has re-opened a butcher shop in our town in rear of the Edgefield Bank. He will keep beef, pork,&c, all meats in their seasou. Give him a call. Quite a number of laborers are at work resetting the shafting in the Edgefield Cotton Factory. This we hope moana business, and a heap of it, in the "sweet." Th? city council of Anderson has appointed a committee of prominent citizens to perfect ar rangements for a large railroad meeting to be held there on the 4th of November, looking to the building of the Black T'amoud road, which is meeting with bo much encouragement in Tennes see, Kentucky, Ohio, and Indiana. The State papers which denounce "high license," and hold that the next South Carolina Legislature must either retain the dispensary law or declare for prohibition, should read th? report of the super intendent of police of Philadelphia for 1896. That report shows that while in 1895 there were 27,077 arrests in Philadelphia for disorder consequent upon intoxication there were only 23,107 arrests for the same offence lai>t year, These figure* mark a falling off of 4,070 caseB of intoxication with whioh the police had to deal, and they constitute a most ofTective ar gument in favor o? high licecfco. This dreaded scourge of hot latitudes appeared July 26, 1878, at New Orleans, and quickly spread northward to Memphis, Tenn., where it continued its rav ages from August 2 to November 2. It rarely travels beyond the region of 75 to 77 mean annual temperature, though in case of semi-tropical seasons visiting northern regione, yellow fever has been carried far north. Th's was notably the cape in 1793, whe?? yellow fever became epidemic at Philadelphia, and there were 4,04,1 deaths from it (one in ten of the population), and in 1798, when it cut off 8,500 people in Philadelphia 2,080 in New York, aud 200 in Boston. Again, in 1853, this pestilence swept off 8,101 at New Orleans, and in 1855 visited Nor folk, Va., mortality 1,807, and Portsmouth, Va., 1,000 victims. In 1878, the total number of yel low fever casesiu the United States has been summed up at 65,976, and the deaths were 14,809-or over 20 per cent. The fatal cases in Memphis alone were 6,160. In 1879, the fever appeared on the 5th of July, and was officially declared at an end October 29. During this time there were 1,530 cases and 470 deaths. Why take Johnson's Chill & Fever Tonic?
