F. C. Lechner, cashier of the Bank of Timmonsvilh, has a very fine pear orchard consisting of 471 Keiffer pear trees, which are now about nine years old. This year he bas gathered nearly 800 bushels of pears, which have aver aged him fully a dollar per bushel. Mr. ?. A. Falkner by his prompt and generous action on last Wednesday prevented what would have probably been a serious conlllagration in Bun combe. The thanks of the community are due Mr. Falkner and his corps of workmen who so successfully fought the fire. A few months previous to his death Gen!. Mahone of Virginia made Sen ator Butler a present of a handsome Jersey bull. In a private note to the Baptist Courier of last week Rev. M. E. Parrish, of Johnston, says: "Bro. G. P. White led to the matrimonial altar last Tues day evening, October 22, Miss Pauline Wright. Sile was one of the most amiable and consecrated young wo man in our church. The writer offi ciated. We extend our sincere con gratulations to this happy couple. Bro. White is pastor of Dry Creek and Ebenezer churches, Edgefleld county He graduated from Forman last June, and is a young man of ability, and if spared will be one ol' our most useful men." How to Make Greens. Seme weeks ago we made the state ment in the ADVKRTISKK that cotton seed "had crawled up to 12^cts," whereupon some one of our readers, a farmer man, went to the Edgefield oil mill with seed and demanded that lig ure for them. The oil mill people were only paying 10><cts and Jeclined to buy at 12>?cts. and denied the soft impeachment that they had offered any such price as 12>? cents. The far mer mau got mad and carried his seed back home. The oil mi'l men were right for we did not get our figures as to the price of cotton seed from them, at the time we published the local, but from a darkey who was bringing in a steer load of seed toa man who want ed them to put in his garden to mike turnip greens next spriug. The far mer mau was right, too, because the cotton seed are worth more than 10)? cents as a fertilizer. But [if he had only thought a little he would right, then and there bantered the oil mill folks to swap him a ton of cotton-seed meal for two tons of seed, and they would have done it and the farmer man's ton of meal would have been worh traore, a great deal mor. to him than the two tons of seed.
