about the rural districts, warning the
farmers who are in the midst of har

less than twenty or thirly. A few-of
the more timid farmers are discard

by hand. Most of them,' however,
will not? 'heed the incendiary notices
and "frill protect their property at all

work can readily secure it now in
the harvest field. In some places
hands are scarce at $1.50 per day and

NOT GOOD TO 1)0 ERRANDS.
A lady went a few days ago to a
dress maker lo inquire after the char
acter of a servant.
"What I wish most of all to know,"
said she, "is whether she is honest,
and can do errands.well,"
"As to her honesty, I can answer
for that," replied Madame-; "but
to errand's, she did not satisfy me
at all. For instance, 1 sent her 'a
doz^rt times to your house with a lull
.of fifty dol?ais, which von have been
owing me these two years, and she
' * never brought me back a cent."
A FRE.VCU WEDDING ErMSOJE
The wedding c jupies presented
themselves at the Mairie in a suburb
of Pans, to carry out the civil por
tion of their marriage contract. They
ranged themselves on opposite sides
of the mayor's official throne, rind
laced one another. The mayor WHS

groom?, whose attention was thus
distracted from his bride. On turn
ing.round to look at her when he had
. answered the question, he caught ber

groom opposite. Being of a jealous
temperament, Le laid his hand rough
ly on her arm, and said sharply :
" Mademoiselle, which of- the two
brides are yon? You are mine, I be

your glances to me." The bride was

I am likely to., lead a pleasant life
with you !".The. jealous..bridegroom

Thereat-' his -bride turned savagely

you like to have ladies make eyes at
you. Now i know what to expect
from you ; but you might at least
have had the decency to keep th ip

she burst' into'.tears. In vain the
TO^yOf 'attempted to pacify both par

each other., and the bridep, between
their hysterical sobs, motually accus

losing temper,' cried out : " Am I to
proceed with this ceremony or am I

said the mayor, whose wrath had
again cooled down, ? "you could ar
range matters between yourselves ii
you were left alone. The clerk will
