The Elixir of Life. I'm growing old, but what of that ! The winter snows are in my hair. And like an antiquated cat, I love my tire and easy chair. To sit and think and read the news, Through pebbles twain that bridge ray nose ; A matted stool between my feet, To coax the current? to my toes. I'm growing old, but what of that ! Each failing sense, each twinge of pain, But tells we with familiar chat, I'm coming to my youth again. And sweet the joy I eternal change Revives anew the meanest thing, For life is born amid the graves. And out of Winter leaps tho Spring. And such a Spring! Again rejoice That age. and nf blew pass away That a brief cycle sets me free, And heralds an unfading day. The snows shall fade from out my hair. And quiet peace succeed to pain; Fresh hopes the wrinkled brow repair, And all my youth come back again. Get that which you can keep, and that which is worth keeping "Something sterling that will stay When gold and silver fly away." Fight hard against a hasty temper. Auger will come, but resist it stoutly. A spark may sot a house on fire. A fit of passion may give you cause to mourn all the days of your life. Nev er revenge an injury, or seek to re turn evil for evil. ;t He that revengeth knows no rest:, The meek possess a peaceful breast." If you have an enemy, act kindly to him, and make him your fri-ind. You may not win him over at once, but try again. Let one kindness be followed by another till you have compassed your end. Little by little. great things are completed. " Water falling day by day Wears the hardest rock away." And so repeated kindness will softeu a heart of stone. Whatever you do, do it willingly. A boy that is whipped at school nev er learns his lessons weil. A man that is compelled to work cares not how baa ly it i ? performed.
