Lake-a most estimable and? honored citizen and worthy Christian gentleman-died at bis home near old Cambridge, in this County, on the 24th, in the 66th. year of his. age. Dr. Lake was noble in all that makes man noble, | and possessed ih an ominent degree the love and confidence of a wide circle of friends and acquaintances. CS* The Charleston News, of the 25th, says : " Among the large cargo of the steamship Charleston, which arrivedhere yesterday, was a lot of twenty-four hors es, including several fine blooded ani mals, imported from Canada by Col. D. Wyatt Aiken, Secretary of the State Ag ricultural Society. The horses have been purchased by Col. Aiken and Maj. J. E. Vaqcc, of'Cokesbury, during a trip to Canada made for that purpose, and in addition to netting a handsome profit to the enterprising importer?, it is believed tha^ tho venture will result in the ma terial improvementof thestfain of South Carolina horses.
