This Reverend and venerable gentle
man, BO widely known and esteemed
throughout our District, died, of paraly
sis, at his home, on the Saluda aide, on
Casualties an^L Crt)ps in and around

An old friend, now living at Batesville,
sends us the following, items from that
. flourishing Railroad village:

much startled, on yesterday morning by
the sudden news of the death of Mr.
Mark Ridge?* the eldest s?ntof Joel
Ridgell, dec'dl, -whichwas th? result of
a gun shot rwound inmetetfl! hy lils? own
hand, at the house 'of his brother, Mr.
Johi Ridgell. The particulars are as
follows: Mr. Mark Rtdgell ha? been for
a number of years a.resident of Texas,
and came ont lately fro m# th at State on a
visit to his old neighborhood. For a
number o? days^revi?ua to his.-, death,
he had been mdec the undue inriuence
of strong drink, w^iph it seems worked
his destruction. He was, found early in
the morning lying dead io Mr., John
Ridgeli's house, having been shot in the.
head, a Colt's pistol lying under hi* leg.

.On the afternoon of Tuesday. 4th inst.,
on the plantation of .Capt. Thos. Bates,
near this place, while a storm. wes ap

The Gre en-Eyed Ufouster Agida on the
Rampage. .
For some time psst one Tom Goss, a
colored man Hying on the Rev. Mr Fur
man's place, below Ridge Springy bas
been troubled to a-'considerable extent
With jealousy-which at length culmi
nated in a most violent hateed 'towards
one Patrick, a gay and festive colored
cuss, who Goss was led" to believe was
"wrying on" to an unwarranted de
gree with: Sirs. Goss. Accordingly, on
the 14th, m the road neab. Ridge Spring,
Goss and Patrick met, whether acciden
tally or by appoih?ment we know not,
but at any. Rate, th en and there commenced
the tug; of wan Result : Goss received
four pistol ba"usin head, neck and shoul
ders, of which wounds he has since died.
Patrick-Patrick West is his name-es
caped uninjured, but has since been ar
rested,-and was brought to jail on Sun
day lastly a party pf colored men.

living with Mr. Wm. Stevens, on the

ful worker-but some few weeks ago he
commenced attending night prayer meet
ings and political gatherings-and he got

doctors think it will be necessary to sehd
him to the Lunatic Asvlum.
