* . AUGUSTA, Aug. 24. COTTON:-There bas been considerable ex citement in Cotton during the week; prices shift ing.: (?ales have been made of Middlings from 29 to 30c. ( uuyors paying the tax,) and. the latter bas been stilly asked. On Tuesday tho market was easier; but yesterday irado was: very dull, and drooping. Latest account* from Now York and PhUn^RlphiA show the state of the market there . to bo ilidd^ihg Uplands very dull at 34c.. The redaction in. the rate of tho Bank of Eng land to 8 per cent, will in duo time cause incieased activity ra Cotton, and unless a heiTj portion of the capital in the bands of speculators has been absorbed by the recent failures in England, wo think we may look for higher prices of Cotton there." The heavy, stock in England now may prevent any large advance at present The re ceipts in this City have been very light, both by wagon and tail road. We close our report ona quiet and drooping market, at tho following rates, the buyers paying the tax, viz.: .Middling 27c; Strict Middling 28; Good Middling 29@30. GOLD, buying at 146; selling at 148. BACON.-Ribbed Sides, 20@21c; Clear Sides,. 23@24c; Hams, 25@27c; Hog Round, 20@21c. CORN.-White, $1,55@1,60 ; Yellow, $1,40?.
