Collector at Charlotte, N. C., which gives
some information to the public:
In reply to your letter of the 7th inst., you
are informed that the term " neat cattle,"
moans all cattle of the bovine species, and in
cludes bulls, steers, cows, heifers, milch cows
and calves, and all these are to be valued and
taxed under section 12, except ?orking oxen
actually employed tu the production of arii

only the cattle held or owned on the 1st cay
of November, and docs not include beeves
kibed and consumed by the tax payer prior
to that time. Yuu are out allowed tu exempt
anything that the law does not exempt, nu

actually used and employed in cultivating
