Assunung the'amount of the General Tax of the year to be hteen Thousand' nine hundred and egiytodollr and seventy-nine cents, 18, 902,79;) as the basis of their estimate~te lard on the - day of Januar 1858, assessed a tax of Ten per cent. on the abve stated amont, for the support of the Poor of said District from which they expected to realise, after deducting the Commissions of the Tax Collector, theFnett sum of Eighteen Hundred and three Dollars and thirty-six cents, ($1,803,36. The Tax Collee tor has since p are n furnished a state ment to the B dby which it appears that the General Tax of the District, collected this year, 1858 ii Nineteen Thousand two hundred and twelve dollars and eighty cents ($19,212,80) the assessment of Ten per cent. upon which amounts to One Thousand nine hundred and twenty-one dollirs and twsnty-eight cents, ($1,921,28,) fm which the Tax Collector deducted his Commis sions, Ninety-iix dollars and six cents, ($96,06,) and paid over the balance; one thousand eight hundred and twenty-five dollars and twenty-two cents ($1,825,22) to the Treasurer of this Board. This amount, and the sum of Two Thousand five hundred and forty-two dollars and fifty cents ($2,542,54) in the hands of the Treasurer at their last Report, making the sum of Four thou. sand three hundred and sixty-seven dollars and seventy-two cents ($4,367,72) applicable to the support of the Poor of said District for the year which expires the first of October inst. At the last Report of the Commissioners of thePoorthere were Twenty-three Pauperscharge able upon the District. The Board have since the last Report, admitted four Paupers to the Poor House. viz: Martha Corley, A. Corley, John Blair, and Mary Chapman-makling in all Twenty-seven Paupers at the charge of the Districtthe last year, and also Seven at the Lunatic Asylum, Columbia, S. C. Since our last Report, eight have left the Poor House of their own accord, viz: J. Story, T. Story, M. Stroud, . Stroud, B. Stroud, S. Strond, . Chapman, E. Green-One has died, viz: Richard Taylor, making a diminution of Four Paupers at the Poor House, and leaving Seven at the Lunatic Asylum, viz: Mrs. Mary Foster, .Mrs.-A. Morgan, Mrs. Lovey Weaver, Celia Dean, F. G. Freeman, Hezekiah Gentry, Martha Rob erts.. H., on the first Monday in Jan. 1857, it was ascertained that the sum of Three Thou sand one hundred dollars would necessarily be required to defray the current expences of the District for the ensuing year, to be expended in building and repairing Bridges, &c.; and, in or der to raise the required amount, the General Board, passed an order requiring the Tax Col lector to colleet of the taxable inhabitants of $he District, Fifteen per cent upon their last year's G3eneral Tax, which was collected by the Tax Collector and paid over by him to the Treasurer of the General Board, and by him received and disbursed, as the following Report of the Treasu rer of the General Board, and the Reort of the Treasurers of the Six Battalion Boards, herewith submitted, will more fully show.
