FRESII FRUIT AND VEGETABLE8.are not merely the greatest luxuries enjoyed by man kind: they are absolutely essential to the perfection of health, and may be regarded as one of God's best gifts. As, however the season of their pro duction is brief, it has long been a matter of deep interest to devise some method of preserving them, in all their freshness, long after their season of, ripeness had passed. Various methods have been devised to effect this end, to each of which some serious objection has been laid. It isbelieved how ever, that in the apparatus here presented will be . found at once the cheapest and must elfective method of keeping these and other articles fresh, ever discovered. DAYTON'S EXHAUSTER. It has long been a desideratum to find some cheap, simple and effectual method of preserving Fruits, Vegetables, &c., so as to keep them fit for domestic use a number of years. The expense of preserving with sugar is a serous objction. Free access of air causes the decomposition of vegetable matter. It is obvious that if Fruits and vegetables can be kept from contact with air, this efect will not take place. To dfe this, the attention -has heretofore been directed to some method of sealing the can, while heat alone has been relied upon for. driving out the air. This method baw been attend ed with many and serious objections, among which are, the destruction of the fresh flavor of the fruit, caused by so much heating, and the difficulty of ascertaining whether the cans are perfectly air tight, after they are sealed. These difficulties are completely obviated, ascd a safe, reliable and cheap method of preserving Fruits and Vegetables is dis-. covered in the EXHAUSTER. It is so simple in iteq construction and operation that any female can use it; yet so substantial that a single instrument will last a family for many years, and serve to seal up thousands of cans of fruit; while cans can be manufactured by any tinner at a much less expense than must be incurred to procure patent cans. 1'Directions for preparing the Fruit, Vegeta bles, Butter, Eggts, &e., and for managing the Cans or Jars will be furnished with the Exhauster. 'I have made arrangements with Mr. W. H. ODR ICH, of Augusta, owner of the Patent of Dayton's Exhauster for this District, and am now prepared to furnioh the EXHAUSTER, together with the Porcelain JARS, manufactured at Kaolin at as low prices as they can be had in Augusta. 371 respectfully call the attention of the citizens of this District to this important invention.
