IMPORTANT TO HOUSE-KEEPERS. DAYTON'S IMPROVED METHOD OF PRESERVING FRUITS, VEGETABLES, &c. FRESH FRUIT AND VEGETABLES are not merely the greatest luxuries enjoyed by man kind: they are absolutely essential to the perfection of health, and may be regarded as one of God's best gifts. As, however the season of their pro duction is brief, it has long been a matter of deep interest to devise some method of preserving them, in all their freshness, long after their season of ripeness had prased. Various methods have been devised to effect this end, to each of which some serious objection has been laid. It is believed how ever, that in the apparatus here presented will be found at once the cheapest and most effective method of keeping these and other articles fresh, ever discovered. DAYTON'S EXHAUSTER. It has long been a desideratum to find some cheap, simple and effectual method of preserving Fruits, Vegetables, &go., so as to keep them fit for domestic use a number of years. The expense of preserving with sugar is a serious objection. Free access of air causes the decomposition of vegetable matter. It is obvious that if Fruits and vegetables can be kept from contact with air, this effect will not take place. To effeet this, the attention has heretofore been directed to some method of sealing the can, while heat alone has been relied upon for driving out the air. This method has been attend ed with many and serious objections, among which are, the destruction of the fresh flavor of the fruit, caused by so much heating, and the difficulty of ascertaining whether the cans are perfectly air tight, after they are sealed. These difliculti.-s are completely obviated, and a safe, reliable and cheap method of preserving Fruits and Vegetables is dis covered in the EXHAUSTER. It is so simple in its construction and operation that any female can use it ; yet so substantial that a sinalo instrument will last a family for many years, and serve to seal up thousands of cans of fruit; whi'e cans can be manufactured by any tinner at a much less expense than must be incurred to procure patent cans. W"Directions for preparing the Fruit. Vegeta bles, Butter. Egats, &c., and for nana.ging th.: Cans or Jars will be furnished with the Exhaustvr. tg'I have madA arrangements with Mr. W. II. GOODRICHI, of Au.gusta. owner of the Patent of Dayton's Exhaust-r for this District, and am now prepared to furnish the EXH .\USTER, to. ther with the Porcelain .l ARS, manufactured at Kaolin, at as low prices as they can be had in Augusta. 71 respectfully cajl the attention of the citizens of this District to this important invention. GREAT desideratum in the way of LIGHT i is accomplished. An illuminating Oil is prepared from Coal, called KEROSENE OIL, which for Brilliancy and Intensity, of Light Is unsurpassed by all other artificial lights. It is not explosive-will extinguish fire if poured on it --and last. though not least, It is very little more expensive than sunshine. A small Lamp, giving the Light of six Candles, will not cost excee'ing half a cent an hour, which can be graduated so as to give less light at a murh less expense. We have the exc'usivc Agency for the KERO SENE OIL and LAMPS in this place, and will sell them at Charleston prices and terms, 'which are exclusively for Cash. A. G. & T. J. TEAGUE.
