*AIE'S NT ]BORN To SORRtow.-ThO record of huma life is-r more melancholy that its ouse; the hours of quiet enjoyment are not oted; the. thousand graces and happiness of sociallife, the loveliness of nature meeting us at every step, the buoyance of spirit resulting from hesith and pure air, the bright sun, the starry frmamen al that cheers man on his road through his probationary state, that warms the heart and makes life pleasant, is omitted in thenarrative, which. can only deal with facts; and we read of disappointment, and sickness, and death, and exclaim, " Why is man born to sorrow.? He is not so; years of enjoyment brace the soul for the grief when it comes; and when it does come, it comes mixed with so many alleviating circumstances, for those who do not wilfully reject all the lesser pleasures which the loving Father of all his works has with so ten der a care scatterecd at our feet, that even the grief is far less in the reality than it appears in the relation. THE TUEF.-Flora Temple, who has been con sidered the mistress of the American turf, has been beaten by a young mare, the Rose of Wash ington, in three straight heats; time 2.301, 2.39, 2.37. Flora has been in 2.30, but is not likely to retain her laurels. The match came off at Centreville, Long Island. H Y N ENIAL. MARRIED, at Morning Side, on Thursday 30th July, by John C. SIMKINS, c.Z.N.D. A.,.,ut S r. 187 di 30) 3P 3M0 P3D THE EXAMINER, Daily, Tri-Weekly and Weekly. T E publication of this journal, from circum . stances beyond the control of the proprietor, has been suspended for some months. Having re eently received much encouragement from good -and true men, it is proposed to resume its publica tion without delay, as a LITERARY AND POLITICAL JOURNAL, And we are encouraged to believe on such a basis as will preclude any probability of failure. As a Literary Journal, it will be devoted to the develupement of SOUTHERN TALENT. There is no paper in this State and very few in the South ern States that make Literature a distinct and prominent feature. The aim of the Conductors of THE EXAMINER will be to elevate it to a high standard in this department, which will be under the control of one of the ablest and most experi enced editors in the State, JOHN G. BOWMAN, Esq , a writer well and favorably known through out the South. As a Political Journal, it will at once take ground and abide by the old landmarks of THE CALHOUN STATE RIGHTS PARTY, owing no allegiance to any National Party, nor seeking to advance its interests by subserviency to any local elique whatever. It will be entirely in dependent in its expressions of opinion on public men and measures-in short, the aim will be to make it a faithful representative of the people, and a fearless advocate of the interest of the State. The position of the South at this juncture-the ap parent truckling of the appointees and organs of the Administration to the Free Soil or Black Re publican Party, as exhibited in the course of the Governor of Kansas. demand that the Press of the South should shake off the shackles of party, and unhesitatingly define its position, and avow its de termination to maintain and defend the rights of the Southern States. It is now too late to deplore the formation of sectional parties-the South, as a Section, must fieht her own battles or be over whelmed. This department will be under the di rection and management of W. B. JOHNSTON, Esq., long connected with the Journalism of South Carolina. :nd who is well and favorably known as an experieneed Editor. We consider it due to all who may be disposed to sustain it, to avow that in politics the RXAMINER will be essential a State Rights Journal. The paper will be continued in the same hand some style and forni as before-a large quarto con taining eight pages and forty columns of matter WEEKLY at Two Dollars per annum. It is also, in contemplation to issue from the same Office and up'n the eame political principles, THE DAILY AND TRI-WEEKLY EXAMINER, The Daily at Six Dollars and the Tri-Weekly at Three Dollars per annum. We have all confidence that the State Rights Party of South Carolina will sustain at the Capital of the State, such an organ of her ancient and well deflnewl principles. Every consideration of patriot ism. intetret and safety demands that in conjunction with other true journals of the State, such an organ should be established and maintained. These de irous of subscribing or contributing in any way to its support, will please address " Editors of the Examiner," at this place. Columbia, July 24, 1857. tf 30 EDWARD H.
