He hath already learned the great fact that this is but natural in the deterioratig and unrelenting pro cess of time. But when he-beholds the bud stricken by an untimely frost, and'decaying whilst it is yet green on the parentstem, be feels that thegreat law of nature is 'not without exceptions, and that the universe was designed and is controlled by a mys terious Power. Howapt is the figure when we ap ply it to the brief and uncertain history of man. We generalfy remark the aged, as constituting the more exposed elaai to'the blighting band of Death-that iexorabie foe to all our race. And yet we fre quentiy see the infant itself snatched away from the fond and tender embrace of affectionate parents, sna ie stana amazed before the.mysterions dispen sation which thqs deprives usef our treasure. Such are some of the emotions that have been awakened by the death of GEORGE RUFUS, i&fnt sol of Mr. and Mrs. B. C. BRYAN, who do-. parted this life at Edgefield 0. II., on the morning bf the 16th June, 1855, aged 5 months and 14 days. tut mahy considerations unite in making this a sad 'bereavement. Innocent and holy, gentle and beau tiful, ah! these,.constituted no shield against the Unerring shaft of Death. It had already been de bided that the little angel should be removed, and saffectionate.and doting parents bereaved. The gen tile heart of the Christian mother with the manly .and sterner nature of the doting father are thus laid }ow is one common and disconsolate grief. Whilst ti-the exercise of a Christian faith they are con strained to believe that the Lord " doeth all things well," they cahnot .yield up without a murmur and forget the dear little one, who, in the family circle, was the centre of all attractions. Their hitherto bright and happy home is now to them but as the desert, devoid of a single oasis to cheer their wan dering footsteps. Before them the future is dark and.gloomy, and they but await till a bright star shall le revealed in the dispensations of that same Providenee.to guide them to the' new made home of their littte babe, where it is promised, there shall be no more parting forever. DIED, in Edgefield District, on the 20th uIt., of Diarrhma and Teething, ELIZABETH JANE, daughter of Col. WILLIAM and MArY JANE QUA' TLEaUM, aged one year and twenty-eight days. This bweet little babe, after being sick for nine weary weeks, has at length been called away to Heaven, where there is neither change nor sorrow. Bereaved parents, grieve not, but think of your loved one as the ransomed of the Lord-He bath called it early from the snares and temptations of earth to bloom in a fairer clime above. It is now singing praises to Him who hath said, " Suffer little children to come unto m -, and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of Heaven." J. P. Q. DIED at his residence in this District, on the 11th - May, Mr. RUsSEL VAUGHN, aged fifty-six years. lie was a faithful and an affectionate husband, a kind father, a vii-tuous and useful citizen, and a de voted and consistant Christian. Hie had been a member of the Baptist Church upwards of twenty years, during the greater part of which time he had exercised the ofiicee of Deacon in the Cliurch to which lie belonged at the time of his death, .and always " abounded in every good word and work." is Church, his community, and above all his family, consisting of a wife and six children, will long feel and deplore his loss.
