W ALKER & JOhN JOHNi SON, CIVIL ENGINEERS. TH IIS MAP which is now presented to the pub lic has been publish by J. 11. CoLTrON, under the patronage of the Legislature of the State of South-Carolina, and is the only Map of the State. which, for accuracy of delineation, and minutia of detail can claim to be reliable. It has been conmpiled from all the surveys made by or under authority of the local governent, the surveys of the eminent Civil Engineers in the ser vice of the several rail road comipanties, and the re sults of the United States coast servey, thereby giv ing, with great precision, the position of points along the coast. Trhe Map, ill point of nminuteness, stands unequalled ; it exhibits the lines of all existing, pro gressing and projected rail roads; the whole system of post and district roads and all other internal im provements ; the situation of cities, towns, village~s, post ofiees. private residences, and the great multi plicity of other objects usually found on thc best and most elaborate maps ; in point of artistic execution, it will challenge comparison with an~y similar work which has ever appeared before the public. The large Scale (5 umiles to the ineha) :dopted by the authors, and thle great distinctness with whlich it natural and artificial features are depicted, adapt its peculiarly to the wants of all interested in conm mierce, internal trade, anld general business within the State. No one at all interested in the progress of the State can well do without this Mlap, which so faithfuliy delineates the actual conidition of the country. The' authors have the honor of referring the public to the gentlemen whose names are herentto attached, as having given much valuable assistence and informtation to the work ; atlso, to many as hay ing examined and eertified to the authtenticity and general excel~enee of the same. Strange that countless human beings exist and drag through life as do the beasts of the field, o the msects of the earth, evincing no more thought or reflection than though the noble faculties of mind -re not vouchsafed to them. Many such are husbands and fathers, upon whoit *e dependent the health, the well-being, and "ie nappiness of a confiding and affectionate wife, with perhaps a family of children. HOW OFTEN TT HAPPENS TitAT THE WIFE LINGERS FROM YEAR TO YEAR In that pitiable condition as not even for one day to feel the happy and exhilerating iniluenco incident to the enjoyment of health. She may not be an invalid confined to her bed, or even to her room; as her pride, ambition and energy induce and nerve her to take personal charge of her household, even when her health will not admit or it ; hut she Is nevertheless perceptibly sinking from day to day, and always ailing. Thus, day after day, and month after month tran spire. Hier health daily sinks, till finally even the hope of recovery no longer remains. And thus THE BLOOMING BRIDE, But a few years ago in the flush of health and youth, and buoyancy of spirits, rapidly, and appa. rently inexplicably, hccomes a feeible, sickly, de bilitated wife, with frame emaciated, nerves un strung, spirits depressed, countenance hearing the impress of suffering, and an utter physica[ and mental prostration. Sometimes this deplorable change may and does arise from organic or constitutional causes.
