Additions have been nade to the Institute build ings during the past year. These contain seven commodious and well finished Rooms, all of which have been built, and are used for purposes of In struction. This Institution is furnished with a Philosophical Apparatus, a Chemical Apparatus, a Cabinet (of Shells, a Collection of Birds, a Cabinet of Mine rals, a Collection of Reptiles, Fishes an4 Animals, a Set of Anatomical Charts, a large and very fine collection of Maps. Globes, Blackboards. Pianaos, and every thing which is necessary for most thor ough instruction. It is said to be the best furnished institute for Young Ladies inl the State. The Academic year is divided into three Scssions of fourteen weeks each. The first Session will al ways commence on or near the 15th of September. Th'e second Session, the 9th of January, and the third the 20th (of April. With the exception of the Christmas holidays there is but one vacation during the year, aud this occurs in A ugust and September. Expenses. Books, Stationary and Music, can be obtained in the Village at reasonable prices. Musical Department. The department of Music is under the supervi sion of imost accurate and accomplisted teachers; and it is believed that unusual facilities are aflurded for acquiring a thorough knowledge (of this ditlicult science. In addition to regular private lessons, the pupils in this department are divided into classes, and taught on the plan of Pestalozzi. They devote much tinme to exercises, adapted to train the ear, and the voice, and to impart an easy and brilliant execution. If they pursue the prescribed course of musical instruction, they acquire the art of reading tmusic with facilitv. They are required to be regular and systematic in practising daily at the Institute. Te training and cultivation of the voice receive an unusual degree of attention. The science of Elocution is here applied, inl developing the voice for singing, with great etyect. Pupils from Charleston, and thle lower Districts, can reach Edgetield by the- Stage, which leaves Augusta and 1hamburg three times a week, and passes throughl the Villagre. And we cordially in vite all who may be pasning through Edgefield to visit our-hnstitute, and satisfy themselves that no better facilities for educating their daughters catn be furnished anywhere, than those which may be en joiyed near their own hotnes.
