RELIGIOUS WORSHIP AT HAVANA.-The
Bishop. of Jamaica, accompanied by Lord
Warneliffe and Lord Charles Harvey, who
are on iit 'ii to Havana, made a personal ap
plieniionto the Captain General on the 25th
uit. for-permission to worship in the parlor
of the hotel ofMrs. Brewer, where they were
staying, and..to perform the aceustoined riteR
of their church, which was responded to
" that it was contrary to the law of the land."
ire. Brewer bad declined permitting public
worship ini her house, unless in conformity
with: the rites of the Established Church
without authority of the Captain General,
for the reason that it would be in contraven
tion of the well known law-known to the
stranger a well as the permanent re.,ident
and for violatiin of which the authorities
would have closed her house immediately.
Dn. IIAYNE.-Tle notorious Dr. Ilayne,
ihe bigamist, has been tried at Paducah, Ky.,
found guilty, and sentenced to the peniten
tiary for five vears and six months, The
teegraph has been extensively used in this
proceeding. A despatch caused the man's
arrest; the witnesses were summoned by a
despatch; and his extravagant declarations
to obtain a continuance were exposed by de
ispaches.
