E Second Session will commence on the
..L 9th of .lanuary 1852.
ri The Trustees congratulate themselves, their
- friends and the public, on what they now con
- sidetr the permanent establishment of an institu
tion of learning of so high a character in their
, istrict. The benefits which their own children,
- with others, have experienced diring the past
. Session, enables them with the greater confi
C dence, to recommend the Instittion to the pat
ronage of the community.
The School was opened on the 18th of Sep
tember last, with thirty-one Pupils, And has
since beci grad unlly increasing. Jtis confident
ly expected that the number inAttendauce will
be greatly ine-Teased during the next Session.
f The Institute building now c6ntains seven
) rooms, all of wfbich have been .built, and are
) ustd, for purposes of Instruetion.
A fine apparatus; a large collection of Maps;
Anatomienit Charts, CGlobes, &e; a Museum of
Natural listory ; a Ca6uct of Minerals and
Shells; furnish unusual faeilities 'for acquiring
a practical knowledge of the different branches
of Science.
The course of Study is of an elevated charac
ter, and more comprehensive, than that of most
female institutions of the highest reputat:0n.
The PRINCIPAL dCvotes the whole of his time
) to the super.ision and instruction of the var.ous
- classes.
The Assistants are experienced.in their diffe
r rent Departments, and those only of knd*n suc
cess in teaching are employed.
I The .\eadeinien1 year is divided into Sessions
- of 11 weeks eqch. It is of great importance
r that the student he present at the commence
ment of the Session. The Classes Are then
formed, and a few weeks delay may affect the
standing of the pupil throughout the year.

1MCAL DEPARTMET.
The Department of Music is under the super
vision of one.of the most accurate and accom
Splished teachers in the State: and it is believed
that unusunl fracilities are afrbrdcd- for acquiring
a thorough knowledge of this difficult science.
- in addition to regutlar private lessens, the pupils4
in this department are divided into classes, and
taught on the patn of Pestalozi. -
S They devote much time to exercises, adapted
a to trin~ the ear. and the voice, and to impart an
y easv and brilliant execution. ?
ue If they pursue the prescribed eourse of musi
cal instructioin. they acquire the art of reading
music with facility.
They are reqiuired to be regular and systemat
ic in practising daily at the Institute.
. Thee training and cultivatiomn .of the voice,
receive an .unusual degree of attention. The
scce of Elocution is here applied, in develop
ing the voice for singing, with great effect.
The Institution has been almost weekly visited
hv a lage number of the ladies and gentlenmen
of our villnite, who have invariably expressed
the hghevst degree of satisftnetion, at what they
have hecaril and seen of the proficiency of the
SPupils and the arrangemnit of the Institute.
A nid the Trustees have only to add in conclu
siun, that while in their olpinion, there are many
institutiocns of learning deservedly popular in our
,State, yet therr are none which can furnish
i.reater ior more substantial advanitages to young
I Ladies than that under the charge of Mr. RAY
