Ap qB&EW COLLEGIATE I-\STITUTE e . Chas. A. Raymond, Principal. T HE FIRST SESSION commences Septem ber 18th. The Institute building will contain eight Rooms, all of which are appropriated to purpo ses of instruction. A fine apparatus; a large collection of Maps; Anatomical Charts, Globes, &e: a Museum of Natural History; a Cabinet of Minerals and Shells ; furnish unusual facilities for acquiring a practical knowledge of the different branehes of Science. Two new Pianos have been purchased in ad dition to those already in the Institute. The course of Study is of an elevated charnc ter, and more comprehensive, than that of most female institutions of the highest reputation. The Paisctr.u. devotes the whole of his time to the supervision and instruction of the various classes. 'The Assistants are experienced in their diffe rent Departments, and those only of known suc cess in teaching are employed. The Academical year is divided into Sessions of 14 weeks each. It is of great importance that the student be present at the commencement of the Session. The Classes are then fmnned, and a few weeks delay may affect the standing of the pupil throughout the year. Tuition is charged but from the time of en trance to the end of the ession. Payments are to be made at the close of each ession. Uunusual facilities are given for a thorough Musical Education. In addition to other improvements, which are now in progress, a large covered playground, for exercise in wet weather, and a gymnasium, are to be erected. Circulars containing a list of expenses, course of studies and other particulars, will be sent free of postage, to those who apply for them. N. L. GRIFFIN, EDMUND PENN, F. GOODE, R. T. MIM . .. July 17 tf 26 LEWIS' STRAW CUTTER. THE Undersigned takes this opportunity of T stating to the public, that he will have another lot of his Machines ready for market, in the course of a few days. Persons wanting these Machines will do well to send in their or ders early so as to ensure their being filled. He refers to the following Certificates, of the many which lie has received, for additional tes timony in their favor. WM. LEWIS. Hamburg, Oct. 1, tf 37 Certificates. Wysos, (Pent.) January 22d 1851. Ma. LEwis,-The Patent Straw Cutter which you invented, and are now offering to the public, is a most excellent article and deserves public favor. Two years since I purchased one and have had it in constant use-it has never been out of repair in any respeet, answering all the purposes you recommend it for. I ?most cheer fully commend it to farmers in all sections, and could not be induced to part withthe one I have, without the prospect of obtaining another, for five times it cost. Respectfully, V. E. PIOLLET. A uesTA, (Ga.) Sept 16, 1851. Ma. LEwis,-Dedr Sir: Some time since I used one of your Straw Cutters to cut roots for my preparation of Georgia Sarsaparilla. Some of the roots were very hard and tough.-I ani happy to .ay your Straw Cutter has far exceeded my expectations. The public need not fear of its getting out of order by cutting straw or fod der, or by accidentally getting hard substances in it. Yours, respectfully, J. DENNIS. EDGEFIELD C. Ht., Sept. 10, 1851. Ma. W~t. LEwns,-Sir: In your letcer you ask how I like the Straw Cutter I bougrht from you. I say it excels any thing of th- kind I have ever seen, and I could not be iiducd to part with it, without the prospe'ct of getting another, for any common consideration. WM. P. BUTLER. EDGEFIELD C. H., Sept. 18, 1851. DEAR Sia: I have been using one of your Straw Cutters for some three or four months, and anm satisfied that its advantages over all others, are such that it will recommend itself to every observer. Its adaptedness to cutting all kinds of grain, in any desirable length, its security to the operator, the minimum of power required to keep it in operation, the dispatch with which it executes its work, combined with its simplicity and durability, must make it invaluable to every one that may have use for them.
