"0 DEATH, WHERE IS THY STING ?"
Hana! 'tis an angel's voice which calls
My wearied spirit to its rest,
And on my ear soft music falls,
The silvery voices of the blest;
Bright forms-long lost, but ne'er forgot
Which once adorned my humble home,
Are hov'ring round-nay, hinder notj
For seo they beckon me to come I
Hinder me not-O, who would stay,
Where all around is gloom and night;
When bliss and never-ending day,
Is birsting on his ravish'd sight;
0, who would linger out long hours,
In wand'ring o'er some desert plain,
When he could roam 'midst founts and flowers,
Where life and endless verdure reign.
The chords are seveid now, whicit fong
Had kept me hefe a willing guest,
And now I pant to join the throng,
Which comes to bear me to my rest.
Joy-joy-forever-now to pain
And sor-ow now no more a prey
But stay me not, for see again,
They smile and beckon me away.
I come--I come-spread, spread your wings,
And bear my willing soul away; r
No longer now my spirit clings
To its vile tenement of clay:
0, bear me onward to the place, ti
Where Jesus hath prepared my home;
I hear his voice-I see his face- k
My Lord, my Life, I come, I come! M

ANGRY WORDS.
Axart words are lightly spoken, 0
In a rash and thoughtless hour- t
Brightest links of life are broken
By their deep, insidious power.
Hearts, inspired by warmest feeling,
Nc'er before by anger stirr'd,
Oft are rent past human healing,
By a single angry word.
roison drops of care and sorrow,
Bitter poison drops are they,
Weaving for the coming morrow,
Saddest memories of to-day. s
Angry words-oh, let them never
From the tongue unbridled slip!
May theheart's best impulse ever ai
Cheek them ere they soil the lip! al
Love is much too pure and holy, 6
Friendship is too sacred far,
For afvoment's reckless folly s
Thus to desolate and mar.
Angry words are lightly spoken- l
Bitterest thoughts are rashly stir'd,
Brightest links of life are broken,
By a single angry word.
How to Obtain Credit.
- The Salem Observer, says, ayoung man
who had been in business two or three C
years, was in want of a small loan of
money, from two to three hundred dollars.
He made some inquiries, and was direc
ted to a worthy citizen for the needful.
* He accordingly called on the gentleman,
and asked the favor, and the following ..
* dialogue took place:
- "Sir, do you take a newspaper ?"
" Yes sir the S--------."
" Very well-call on me ina day or
two."
During the interval the gentleman
called at the printing office, and on in
quiry found that the applicant for the
money had paid his newspaper bill puno
tually, when due. On the young man
calling on him at the time appointed, he
said, "You can have the money, sir, upon
your note."
CROSS ExAMINATION.-" Mr. Smith
you said you once officiated in a pulpit;
do you mean by that you preached ?"
"No, sir; I held the light for the man
who did."
" Ah! The court understood you differ
ently. They supposed that the discourse
* came from you."
" No, sir I only throw'd a little light
oni it." r<
"No levity, Mr. Smith. Crier, wipe s
your nose, and call the next witness." rr
