I request your own notice of it. If I am wrong, it is through ignorance, not from bad desire. 1st. Is it lawful to expel all grades of free ne groes from the State, or to sell them as public property ? 2nd. If not, can it be made lawful? 3rd. Are they not a pest to society ? 4th. Are they not generally too lazy to work for a living? 5th. Are they not commonly an injury to our servants ? 6th. Are they not influencing them to mischief and insubordination? 7th. Are not their houses generally places of gross dissipation ? 8th. Do not the slaves live better and fare bet ter than they I With good intentions, I submit the above ques tions to you and to the public. A FARMER. - - -0 - - OVER ONE.HUNDRED TKDIANS SLATN.-The Marysvill (California) Herald, of the 15th of July, gives anacecount of an extensive slaugh ter of Indians of Pitt River. The battle was fought by Captain B. F. Harvey, and his command of 150 men. There were upwards of seven hundred Indians, more than a hun dred of whom were killed, and a large num ber taken prisoners. Tus RELEASE OF Kossrm.-From Con stantinople, we learn that it is still believed that Kossuth will be released at the time specified, and that he will arrived at New York in the steam frigate Mississippi. in the month of October. The Russian and Ans trian Envoys have ineffectunlly interposed obstaeles to prevent his liberation, and the influence of Sir Stratford Canning is at pre sent in the aseendent. Should Kossuth be released, it is believed that the diplomntic intercourse between Austria and the Porte will he interrupted for a time. COMMERCIAL. Correspondence of the Advertiser. He united himself to the Baptist Church of Christ in 1791,-was ordained deacon in said Church in the year 1803, and lived an orderly member until his death. Hie was truly an ex ample of frugality. honesty and industry. Ho was attacked by dropsy a few weeks be fore his death, and though lie suffered much in his last illtness, he bore it with Christian forti tude:;-was firm in the faith and often expressed his willingness to " depart and be with Christ." lie wa heard often to repeat the wvords. The School will be truly Southern, as the Teachers are not only natives of the State, but also, Southern in all their feelings and habits. T11E TRUSTEES of this Institution, have the pleasure of nnnouneing to the public, that they have engaged as its Principal, the Rev. CHARLES A. RAYMOND, under whose care and superintendence it will be opened about the middle of September next. In the mean time the buildings wiil be much enlarged, and every arrangement made for the accommodation of a large number of pupils. The Trustees are anxious to establish a Fe male Institution, which shall command the confi dence and secure the patronage of the communi ty at large. The most undoubted testimonials of the suc cess and competency of Mr. R AYMOND as a Teach er have been furnished ; and they do not -hesi tate to recommend him and tho Institution to the support and entire confidence of the public.
