FOR TnE ADvEaTIsER. THE RIDGE CO-OPERATION BARBECUE. Ma. Enrroa:-A lovelier day has seldon dawned upon the quiet and peaceful citizens u: the Ridge, than was the day of the Co-operatiot ineeting. At a very early hour the people eam flocking fron all directions, to the beautiful grov( near Mosrs Hons'rEIxs Spring. From th< bright smiles and cheerful countenances of tht people, we were induced to believe, that a gene ral feeling of devotion to the cause of Co-opera tion aud Southern Rights, pervaded their boso-ns There was manifestly, no attempt at display amongst the people ; for their hearts were toe deeply concerned for their own, and their coun try's future weal, to think of unnecessary show By the hour of ten, a host of true hearted men and lovely women had assenibled. The scene was picturesque, interesting and beautiful. You, Mr. Editor, would have been delighted had you been there with yoiur old friends. In rear of the eapacious stand, erected for the speakers, was a group of neighbors, industriously preparing lemonade, while others were bearing it to the ladies, who occupied the seats in front of the stand. Reyond this group, was the ladies table, around which the truly patriotic ladies of the Ridge were moving, preparing, with their accus toned industry and alacrity, their splendid and sumptuous Pie-Nie. In rear of the ladies were the two long extended tables for the gentlemen, and still beyond these, and near the beautiful springs, was another group of neighbors, with their servants. striving busily around the smoking pits, where the barbecue was being prepared. All was life and animation, and every one scemed to be conscious of his responsibility, and that he was acting a part in a great and good cause. At eleven o'clock, between 12 and 1500 of our citi rens and voters assembled at the stand, the Pres ident of the meeting introduced the Rev. A. U. Fon-r, of Lexington, who invoked the blessings of Heaven upon our meeting. Our distinguish ed Senator, and beloved fellow-citizen, the Hon. A. P. BUTER was then announced, who arose, and for reasons which the Committee approved, declined making a speech ; notifying the people that he would address the citizens of the District, at Edgefield Court Uouse, the Srst Monday in October. Our able and worthy representative, the Hon. A. Bear, then addressed the meeting. Wehave not time to give even extracts of his able speech. Suffice it to say he poured forth in siiver tones of eloquence, those patriotic sentiments of devotion to Southern Rights, which have always charae terized him. IIENRY R. gPAx, Esq. followed, and in a clear and masterly manner, pointed out the great ne cessity of Co-operation with our Southern sister States, as our only true puolicy ; and clearly de monstrated the absurdity of making South Caro lina a separate independent nation. Mr. SrAss spoke with a great deal or spirit anl earnestness; and for the bold and decided position lie has taken in defence of our cause, lie has received and will continucto receive the hearty "welldone" of-the people of the Ridge. Otur gallant Capt. P. S. Unmtos next addressed the meeting. The tifia allowed hma bold aj protposed by preei' our Cot antd cni to bring the otl .-m. : '*...., .a aat thiTs be the only action of thte Convention during its legal oxistence, and should all means fail of co-opera tion, let another Convention be called, and its members be elected by the sovereign peopule. We forbear commenting, as copies of the ad dresses have beeni requested by the meeting for pubtlication. Great attention wvas given to the Speeches, and their sentiments were received with enathusiastic evidence of approbation. Din ner was announced at the close of Capt. Baooxs' speecht, wvhen thte people repaired to thte tables that truly "groaned with the weight of the feast." A better dinner we suppose, wvas never given in Edgetield, nor was there ever better order ob served at a Barbecue. The Ladies table was furnished with an abundance of good and sweet things, of as great variety as we ever saw at a Pie Nie. Amongst the nice things on the Ladies table, were the beautiful Cakes, made, with ap-. propriate mottoes inscribed, by the Ladies of the Ridge, and presented by Miss LOUIsa L. Hor. srEix and Mrs. S. E. WA'rson~, to the Speakers of the day. Mr. Editor, we do assure you, that you missed a fine treat by not attending the Co-Operation meeting. You would have been gratified, per haps, to see the strong evidences gived of the good state of feeling amongst the people. A t the close of the meeting, thme Report and Resolutions, called the Ridge Resolutions, were read-with the understanding that we regard the Chtarleston Resolutions our genteral platform, and were unanimously adopted. On motion, the following resolution was adopted: Resolved, That we tender our grateful ae knowledgment to air. BUnrT, Mr. Smass and Capt. P. S. D~aoomcs, for their able exposition of our principles, and that they be requested to send us copies of their speeches for publication. In conclusion we wotuld state that we had our oiwn District Band of Music to enliven us during the day. The meeting adjourned about 4 o'clock, and all came home well pleased with the Co operation barbecue. We regret that the lIon. F. IH. WAnD LAW, who was invited to address thme meeting, was prevented by unavoidable circumstances. We take pleasure, however, in announcing to the Co-operationists that his views will be published in a short time. N. FOL TnlE AlivEaRiERi. T HE CO-OP E R.T105 M1EET ING. Mr. Editor :-You have received, I suppose, as is usual after such displays, a amost flourishing account of the Co-operation barbecue at the Ridge, on the 3rd inst. Lest the people may be misled, and may take thme demonstration to mean more than it really did, I deem it important that an eye witness, of the other party, should state what did occur. There were, a thousand or twelve hundred persons-men, women, children, servants and all assembled. Thme tables were well supplied with pr-isos and no unpleasant occurrences Judge Butler, on being introduced to the au dience, announced that lie would address his fel low-citizens at Edgefield Court House, on the next sale day. Messrs. Burt, Spann and Brooks made speech es in favor of Co-operation, maintaining the im practicability of a State's seceding alone, and the improbability of any other States uniting with us in resistance. I conecived their platform to be one of entire acquiescence in the past inca sures of aggression. There was but little feeling, and most indiffer ent applause. How could men entertain sentiments of enthu siasm, while advocating doctrines which might lead to submission and foul dishonor. It was ascertained to my entire satisfaction that we could have out voted the Co-operationists at their own Pie-Nie. ONE OF MANY. For the Southern Congress. Mit. Eurroit: I offer for the consideration of the voters of this Congressional District, Col. F. W. Picmcsxs and. DmaaroN NANCE, Esq., as candidates to repressent it in the Southern Con gress. They are gentlemen of ripc experience, of tried patriotism, and united to the State by the highest and holiest ties. These gentlemen would possess some advantages from their at tendance upon the Nashville Convention above many others, no less worthy and qualified in other respects. A VoTER. loofland's German Bitters. WE would call the attention of our readers to the advertisement ot Dr. HooFLAND's celebrated German Bitters, prepared by Dr. C. M. JACKSON, No. 120 Arch street, Philadelphia. In cases o Liver complaint. Dyspepsia, Disease of the Kid neys, and all diseases arising from a disordered stomach, their power is not excelled, if equalled, by any .other known preparation, as the cures attest, in many cases, after the most celebrated physicians had failed. We can conscienciously recommend this medicine, as being what it is re commended, and urge our readers who are af flicted to procure a bottle, and they will be con vinced of the truth we assert.'
