-Ti 31 ETODWs'rS Of New Aiaven, (Con.) have published a series of resolutions in op. gesition to the course takfin by the Preachers' zoeeting holden in New York, on the 9th ult., against the Fugitive: Slave Law. The socie ty of Methodista at New Haven, is said to be one of the largest in the U. States. Their resolutions are full of good sense. We copy these. Resolred, That we believe, the resolutions adopted by that meeting upon the "fugitive slave law" are unsound in principle, injudi cious and unwise, casting a reproach upon our rulers, tending to increase the already too fierce spirit in our church, and subverting our harmony and glory; and that we disclaim all participation and sympathy in their senti ments, and believe them unpatriotic and tend ing to disorganization. Resolced, That in our belief, the recent un happy and melancholy division of ourchurch, (in which the laymen did not participate) with the attending controversy, together with many other evils under which we suffer, and whieh have paralyzed the moral power of the church, has been owing mainly to an unwise controversy upon the subject of slavery, and prosecuted by the intemperate zeal of certain members of the ministry. Resolred, That we regard our Preachers strictly as our moral and spiritual teachers, and believe they should be ministers of peace, as well as of righteousness, and in our opin ion should teach obedience to our laws, arid respect to our Rulers, and in no way be agi tators of the pence of society and promoting a spirit of insubordination. Ealp SRntt. AUG TSTA, Dee. 31. Since our last weekly review prices in the market have gradually improved, and at the close of business last evening, show an advance of fully three quarters of a cent on all qualities. Our report for tho week ending the 23d inst., closed on a quiet hut steady market, at the quota tions then given, viz: 101 to 12 cents. During the week just brought to a close little or nothing has been done in the article, in conse quence of the Christmas holidays intervening. The receipts have been unusually light, and the sales of the entire week confined to some 280 bales, at prices ranging from 103 a 124 ecents ex tremes.-Carolinian. CHIARLESTON, Dec. 30. II. Nica OLLS, and feel confident, that, under his experi enced guidance, the Institution must prosper. Every step has been taken to render it a truly SouTrnuaN SCHOLL by divesting it, as far as pose sible, of Northern infuence, either literary or personal, and they feel that they have now a School in their mids ,dapted to their utmost pre sent and future need.
