The proedcings consequent upon the death of Senator Elmore will induce the necesity r.f extendii the recess until Tuesday or WVednesday next, to enable the offieers of the Iouse to complete the arrangements of the hall for the summer. GREAT Loss oF LaFE.--A despatch from St Louis, 28th ult. to the Baltimore Sun, gives he subjoined particulars of another terrible steamboat disaster: A frightful steamboat accident took place this evening. The steamer St. Louis eol Lpsed two flues, three miles below the city, at quarantine. A fri'ghtfnil scene ensured the shrieks of the wounded and dying were most heart-rending. From all the information which could be gathered in the confusion, it appears, th:tt 25 lives, were lost, and 40 persons wounded. About half the number of persons sealed will certabily die. The sufi'rers mostly were leck passengers.
