OEITUARY. DerarTvo this life on 2Oth August 184O, M rs. ELIZa e-TU HILL, wife of Col.John hill, in the 4d year )f her age. She had given birth to eleven chiidren, seven ')f whom are liv ing. the vunngest an intimt six months and eight days old. Having been endowed by na ture with a strong discriininting mind and an atihe disposition, she exemplified all the qualities necessary to the iniking of the truly ood neighbor. mother and wife. Being pha, ced by her marriage in the delicate position or step-mother, by her prudence and exceeding kindness of heart. even wi~nit apparent el tort, she was enabled to disehige the arduous. yet high and responsible duties growing out of that relationship in such a manner, ai not only 10 preserve the utmost cordiality and peace in the faunily circle, but also to make all feel that they were blessed with the presence and super intendance of the real mother. By her step children she was respected, honored and loved as she who had given thei birth. As a neigh bor she was truly .xciphary. To make oth ers happy, was happiness to her, the law of kindness was ever upon her heart and tongue. She was never heard to speak evil of a neigh bor, or " to take up a reproach against a useighi bor." Her aim was to do unto others, as she ti4ld they should do unto her. It was therin liig-principle of her life-as a wife she shoie with ieculiar brightness. In weal or wo, in sickness or health, she seemed to regard it as her highest and holiest calling to bring her every resource, so to hear upon her domestic relation ship as would the best secure and promote the interest, peace and happiness of her husband. To accomplish which she regarded no sacrifice as too painful. Some time previous to her death, she was brought to feel the need of a more intimate communion with God through the merits of her Redeemer. Yielding to a deep conviction of The inbred depravity of the natural heart, and its direct opposition to God, she was brought to the exercise of in unfeigned repentance to -wtird God, and was enabled by the Holy Spirit -through the mercy of God, to view and by t living faith to take hold upon Christ as her Sa viour, and realize him in her heart. " the hope -of glory." Her conversion was clear ani the -evidence of a good and lively hope continued with her to the last. in the enjoyment of that peace which passeth knowlede-peace with 'God through Jesus-christ. Afflictive as is the dispensation, to her bereaved friends, family -and busband, it is her gain. Her sanctified 'spirit rests in peace, in the bosom of her Fathet 'God. - DIED at his -residence in this District on the 20th inst., Capt. ToaAs H-. Lovei.EsS. in the :53d year of his age, after a long and severe ill -ness which he bore with uncommon fortittde. In his death the country has lust one of its most -useful citizens, and he Jeft a widow aind five 'children, with many relatione and friends to mourn his loss. " But they sorrow not its those -who have no hope." A few days before his death he expressed a firm belief in the reality of j 'the christian religion. of' which he had once, as he stated had serious doubts. The doubts were not only removed, but his soul was filled with .joy inexpressible and full of glory. P. On Thnrsday the 20th inst. by the Rev. Iver son L. Brooks, Maj. DAvi L.
