LATER FRM EUROPE.
ARRIVAL OF THE CA.EDONIA AT HALtPAX.
The Steamer Caledonia. Capt. Leech.,
arrived at 1;tlifax aboni seven o'clock on
Thursday evening, and *ill be due at her
-wharf in Boston at an early hour on Sat
urday morning.
The Caledonia has 45 passengers for
- oston, exclusive of 18 of the 42 survivors
of the ill-Fated barque Charles Bartlett, of
Plymouth. Milass., Win. Bartlett. master.
This vessel on Wednesday, 27th June,
at half-past 3 o'clock P. M., about 700
miles to the westward of Cape Clear, was
run down by the-steamtn ship Europa. and
sunk in three minutes, with 134 of her
pass-ngers and crew. The caltastrophe
occurred durin- a dense fog, and although
the boats of the Europa were instantly
lowered, and every p.assible assistatice ren
dered, only 42 out of 176 souls were saved.
The captain. mate. anti ten of the crew
are among the survivors.
The Europa is acquitted of all blame,
not only by the survivors, but by the
-iinnianimous voice of the British press and
public. A subscription of 352 pounds
was promptly raised by the passengers of
tIte Europa, to which the proprietors have
,Added 20 pounds. They also offiered to
zimrry the whole of the survivors to Boston
or-New York free I all expense.
Tie Europe sustained no material dam
age by the collision.
The result of this week's business in
Liv'erpool are highly satisfactory to almost
every branch of trade.
The London and provisional markets
in the absence of home supplies have been
equally active.
COTTON MARKET.
Tne operations of the week have not
been so extensive as those oft he last %%eelk,
but the markets is firm, with a slight up
ward tendency, and actual advance of the

American. This week's transactions have
reached 58,855 bales, of which ]6.500
were taken on speculation, and 5000 for
export. The Arnerican deseriptions sold
consist of 14,000 at 4d. to 15Ad.; middling
- 41d.; fair 4j; 22.000 bales New-Orleans

POLITICAt.
And offlcial bulletin has been istued by
the Austrians, annnuucintg that the Hun
garians have been compelled to retire from
Raah. They were said to have taken a
route towards Acs, prior to the capture of
Raab. Georgy, by dechning to risk a
battle at Raab, and retreating towards
Gran. deceived the Austrians.
The Russians were under the necessity
of leaving sorne 20.000 men before Com
orn. Georgy, howAever, would never
have abondoned Raab. except with the
view of detaching a portion of his force
against Paskewitch.
A rumor prevailed in tle i rench As
sembly, that the Hutigarians had obtained
an important advantage over the Russiatns,
in the vicinity of Raab. The Rutssiants
are reported to have lost ten thousand inen
at Wautno.
-A conspiracy ngainst the Prtssian (o
vernment was discovered, and a desperate
battle took ptlace bet ween thte troops arnd
insurgents otn the 2G:th nit,, in the vicinity
- of Carlsrhue and Mangderstelle, in which
tlte insurgents were defeated. Gen. Pan

With regard to the eflicacy of .JEW DA
