Burt, our worthy opresentativo in Congress, we have received a number of interesting public documents. Extracts from a letter eceived by a gene tleman of this town from one of the "96 Boys," dated Cam> As, Mobile 17th Jan. 1847. "The o ning we left Atlanta, we pitch ed our te s 3 miles from the town, in a severe raiq; the men having nothing but limbs of rce to protect them from the ground, which was completely saturated with water. Next morning we rose early, -and after allowing our tents to dry..march ed 11 miles, the day was very cold and clear, and the road pretty good; for the next two or- three days march nothing of interest occurred, until we arrived at an old Methodist camp ground, where, an night, we had i very severe sleet, and we were compelled to lie over next day, be ing as cold and disagreable a day as I ever feltr it was ir possible to keep even com fortable, and had we not have been under cover, heaven knows what would have become of us. Next mornirg. after trying to thaw, we had a pleasant march of 15 miles, the cold was so intense that the roads was frozen over, and for some dis tance we could had fine skating; we found the-roads from Atlanta to Lagrange pretty good, with the exception of 2 days march, which was very heavy and hilly; at La. grange we were joined by our Major. ".The only place where we were treat ed with any respect, was a little town called Auburn, where we were met by a part of two volunteer companies, and es corted out of the town. From . Lagrange we had a very bad road to Noto Selgo the head..of-the Alabama rail road, and forty miles distadt fronm Monigomery, where we took cars for the laitler place, after marching 120 miles. We reached Mont gotnery on the 13th about.3: . M., and before sundowa had all -embarked id a steamer for this place, where sie arrived on Friday night-at 11 o'clock, and passed the town iu the ship yard this side, where we lay too until morning, when we came to sose houses en.the bank of the river; the houses are enclosed on each side with two large gates,on the other, guarded day and night by.seutinels, and aot even an officer is allowed to go to town,so although having-been here two days,( havo.noteven sees a house: Our.-Colonel left-this morn ing flo Nv' eaneiitnd I ant ian hwpes of gettino reve ~t-morrow; yesterda'y 4r iadenegp ca to the Regiinent, in wvhichi ;d' said that. t .iad se.aled orders it, his possession, srbich he was commanded not to..open until dd the gulph, but he wai cer twin; that the orders were for the-seat of war, and-more than likely for Vera Crut ,at this the air echued and rerechoed with htzzas, and I can-assure old Edgefield's voice,.if int loudest was longest, our pul ses beat high with tiartial enthusiasm, and all are eager.for battle. . "A can assut-e y'iu, that wherever we met a Carolinian, his heart and purse wns always openl mo us, from the richest to the pioorest there seetmed toi be a rivalry who would do ttas' for us."
