According to -he Order of the Captain,
the "Old '96 Boy" assembled at the Court
[louse this morning. -
The meeting was organized by calling

horted to rally under the standard of their
-country, with an earrestness and exhibition
-of feeling 3eldom wi:nessed on such an oc
casion.
The Chairman then distinctly put the
,guestion to his company, whether they
were willing to comply with the terms of
the late reepisition of the Secretary of War,
and share in the dangers and glory of the
- whole war, or whether they preferred to
-.remain at home, anl suffer others to vin
dicate the honor of their injured and insul
ted country. The quection was imnedi.
" ately answered by F011TY THREE,

7Tu the Captain of the " Old '9ti Boys."
l take pleasure Sir, in presenting to
your Cotmpany a Standard, which bears I
opon one side the Palmetto with the glori
otis emblems of our State, and upon the
other, it pt eseuls the E agle with the Stars

know the gallant spirits to whlam.[ trust
this Banner will follow wherever it wamves,
and bear it al.oft in triumph, or perishi be
aeath it in glory.
'.To which Captain Brooks. in behalf-of
his Company. gallantly replied: .
WVe receive Lady, this elegant -bastcer
as a tribute (roma heauty-to valor.
The occasion of itself is solemn aa'd int
teresting, but when we rolleet that the
offering-comes from one thbrou'gh whose
gentle veims floivs the blood of Andrew
-Pickens, and is made to the descendants of.
those whose fame is the Historj/ of "the
-times which tried men's souls" the.qpecta
cle .becomes indeed sublime.
It-is a pleasing faucy to stuppose those
dating spirits; who met unmoved the
shock of battles now hovering over us, and
infusing into each breast their valor and
their patrioism,--This, though a pleasing
faotey is yet a delusion, but thank God;
ete a-ve left us Tia? which is neithter
fancy-or delusion-their bri h; their glori
'ous example. May it .take root in each
tii gvey.byzeastj'agd steel each arm for
generous deeds of noble daring.
You are aware that'this Company has
not yet its requisite number, and, it may
be, that the sons of Old-Edgefield are des
tined toSear and not 'tam tel " how fields
wvere won". Should it -be so-(a calam
ijy which Heaven in~Itadroy-wvert,)-you,
fair lacty, will bear witnesS,that the ress
ponsibility rests Upon othe'rs, and tiot uporn
Us.
-Lady.. it is the province of the soldier to
act-not to talk.
I ant commissioned, by the -company
wmhich [~have the honor to command, to
say we accept your valued present with
gratied,5itldsoulddnuty call Js to th e

Heaven,'before-yotvand in 'the presence
of this assembled multitude, we solemnly
pledge ourselves to " follow wherever it
waves, and bear it aloft in triumpb, or
perish heneath it in glory."
The Volunteers were then marched into
the Court House, and were addressed in a
well, timed and forcible speech by Col. L.
T. Vigfall, who was remaining here for
the day, en route for the Rio Grand.
The meeting of the "O!d 96 Boys" was
then adjourned, to assemble continually on
each day until the complete organization
of the company.
The zeal and patriotism manifested by
every Vo unteer, by every citizen and by
every individual present at our meeting,
warrants us i. saving to our sister Dis
triets, that Edgefield will not be found
wanting. in the name of the "01:1 '96
Boys," we call opon the other Companies
of the "Palnetto Regiment," to meet us
in Charleston.
From the generous encouragement ex
tended to us by our cilizens generally
from the smiles of our ladies, and from the
spirit of our young men, we promise, that
in Charleston, or. if necessary, on the walls
