The indications are very strong that the
Senate will, ultimately, give the notice of
the termination of the Convention of1827,
but with a qualifiationI recommending
compromise and negotiation. Both hou
ses are disposed to.give the notice, but go.
for a Compromise on the 49th parallel,
and giving besides, the whole of 'Vancou
vers's Island to Great Briisin.
The question is whether Great Britain
will accede to this, and ojer it. The next
packet, daily expected, may settle it.
Il the Senate, Mr. Barnegan made a
personal explanation to-day, in reply to
some remarks Mr. Colquitt made, yester
day, in regard to his. (Mr. H's.) course on
the Texas question. Mr. H. stated that
he was originally in favor of the Annexa
tion of Texas, but after having discovered
a disposition on the partlof the South to
break illair faith, which they had pledged
at the Baltimore Conventibn, and go
against Oregon, he determined obt to vote
for the Annexation of Texas, and did not
vote on the question at all. Mr. H. had
he said, stated at the time to Mr..Sevier
and Mr. Atchison, that he should not vote
for Texas because the South was all for
Texas, and for giving away half of Ore
gon.
Mr, Atchinson confirmed:the statement.
Mr. Sevier did so also, and added that it
was a strange thing-that frow the time
Oregon was first heard of, in. the days of
Jefferson down to this time., the South
and the slaveholding portion of the Union
had always gone against Oregon.
Mr. Evans submitted a resolution call
ing for the correspondedfe with Foreign
Governments, relative to the making of a
Ship Ganal across the Isthmus of Pa
natma.
Mr. Di-% spoke from 1 o'clock.till three, 1
on the Oregon question, discussing the ti
tie verymnintitely and elaborately. He is
in 'favorofrihe notice, and evidenti will -1

Mr. Culver, of N: Y.. moved to amend
by adding aprovision that, no part of this
appropriation should be. paid fur fugitive
slaves.
,Mr. Cuilver and Mr Geddings, of Ohio,
took occasion. to make very inflammatory
speeches on the subject. denoneing every
member of the House who should support
a bijI-acknowledging slave. - as- property.

12 o'clock, diurnal meridian, on the- 4th

The other Bill is general in its naturel
and restricts the allow ance for mileage in
