Farming on a Large Sezte.-What large tracts of land are stonetines tilled in the western States under the name of farms may be judged from the following articles wbieh are found in the Peoria Press: As flinois Prairie Farm.-hi r. Isaac Underhill, of Peoria, has a farrr, about 18 miles above this place, at Rome, on the Il linois river. which is the largest, or at least one of the largest in the state. The first field of this farm that meels * your view in approaching Rome, consist ;of fve hundred acres, under what is some times called Virgiuia or worm fence. eight rails high. Three hundred acres of this are in wheat, principally put in last fill. and which was sowed upon the sad, last Y foi the first time: broken up by the groud-a- fulMerop -s w E ladiiin a solt body bf matted rootsihe ages. are-thoroghly decomposed and putterised, u hieh cannot take place in a few months, The wheat Is now (Ju ly 9th ) "white for harvest -," and it is esti mated that parts of the field will yiel twenty-five, and some, thirty hushels to, the acre, though the wshole may not aver age much over twenty biushels. The dif ference in the crou is mainly attribsutable to the time manner in which the plonagh ing and sowinug were done. The balance of the field is in enrn and oats. The whole farm comprises about two thousand three hundred acrea~has a straight * line of fence on one side. three miles long.
