On his retiring, Col- Thos. Pinckney was call ed to the Chair; the Senate proceeded to supply thb vacancy; and the Hon Angus Puuer.zain, of Barsewell, was elected President, without op position. Wif learn from the South Carolinian, that Dr. Thonmas Smith, of Darlingtoi, District. vas elected Lieutenant Govei nor. at the first ballot ing, by a majority or one vote over Dr. B. K. Ilenagan, of Marlborough District. S Soa Carolina College.--At a meeting of the Trustees of the Soust Carolina College, Pro essot Twins was re-elected to the Departnent of Mathematics, Mechanical Philosophy, and Astronomy. The Hon.-John C. Calhoun and lady, passed through Charleston on the 9di ult on their way to Washington City. The Hon. Win. C. Preston, and the Hon. Waddy Thompson, left Columbia on the 4th inst. for Washington City.
