The Legislatute of South Carolina assem
bled, at Cuitmbia, on tte 2ut iust. In the Se
nate, Puir.ck Noble, of Abbeville, was re-elect
~ ' ed President, without opposition. In the House
of depresentatives, Uttvid L. Wardluw, of Ab

. Early Cold Weather.-On the 27th inst. the
thermometer stood at 27 degrees, shortly after
sun-rise, at this place.
We commend to the uttentiot of our readers,
the resolutions of the Merchants of dus place.
They have our hearty approval. We .cope sleat
the merchants of Hamburg, and the country
generallv, will ce.-operate with thema. We a;so
hope that the planters who carry cotton to Ham
burg aid Augusta, will refuse to take o..e dollar
of the ieorgia shitn plaster curres.cy. II they
are compele d to receive a simai utou.t of it
in change, they case easily return the Iills toAn
gusta, and exchan e thema for larger no'tes. It
is certainly a reflection ipon us.. that we have
so long permitted the circulatim of the raged
little bulls of another State amongst us. They
drive out specie. As long as they circulate, spe
cie will be scarce.
Resolutions of the Mlerehants of Chester, con
eerning the Clanks of Charatw, Georgetown and
Ilamtburg.-It is to be regret'ed that the mer
chants of, Chester, should have thought- it ne
cessary to pass resolutions, calculated to affect
in the slightiest degree, the credit of these banks.
We believe them all to be perfectly solvent.
With regard to the Hamburg hiank, the people
in this section know timt it has been fitithtuly
managed. and that it pays specie promptly, lir
all its hills when ptesented. We hope that it
will soot enter oto arranrgeents. if it has not
already done so to make its tote- batkubab- in
Charleston. There will thee, no longer, be any
room for complaint.
Death of Judge lay.-T..e Charleston Cour

of this State, having been appointed on tih-,

Dr. Francis Y. Simnons, late State Senator
from St. Paul a Parish. died at Edingaville on
the 16th of September last.
We regret to learn, says the Charleston, Mer

virulence in that District.
