Hiver we learn th.it the Hotel at Shallots

was burned on Wednesday of last
Week.
The hotel consisted of two houses,
> one built by Mr. Geo. Hooper in 1849,
and used by him for a family residence
and lor the accommodation of travellers.
The other was built by Mr.
John Burney, and subsequently was
moved and attached to the Hooper
house.
We have no particular* of the

were insured, and it is very likely
the insurance company will thoroughly

Tax Coi.lkctions.?From Mr. W.
A. Smith, now assisting Treasurer
Derham in tax collecting, we learn
tint up to yesterday 1310 persons had
paid their taxes. This is about onehalf
the number of taxpayers in the
county. The collections up to the
present time amount to about $8,000.
The tax assessment of the county is
$21,553.30. Deducting ihe amount
j paid Irom this leaves $13,503.30 yet to
be paid. This is by far the most unfavorable
exhibit in taxpaying ever
, made in tliis county, and we apprehend
the delinquent list, and property
sacrificed under the Treasurer's sales,
w ill he fearful.
