beating that the Legislature bad passed
nil act assessing dogs *100 each, tor
taxation, brought all of his dogs to
town last Monday to deliver them up
to the Treasurer to make the taxes out
of them by sale, or undergo the death
penalty at thA hands of the Coroner.
Hoth the owner and dogs were rolievoil
on learning that there was no such
law, nor i.s it likely there ever will be.
.Members of the Legislature own more
dog* than sheep.
The last Ijcense to retail or sell
spiritous liquors in this county, expire J j
011 ihe last day ol last year, and there
is not now a licensed shop in the
County. The effect of this was plainly
seen on the streets last Monday. An 1
unusually largo crowd in town and
not the first (fisordorly word heard
the whole day.
The county Commissioners have determined
to run a dry schedule for the
next twelve months. We hope they
will stick to their resolutions.
Now is a god time to join tewipeajuic
societies.
