During their residence in this State, Mr. Outlaud w as successful in business, and his children grew up around him, and for many reasons were reflected and loval by the entire community. The subjeet of this memoir was born in Wayne Co., N. C., January Id, 1850, and died at her own hotue in Horry Co. S. It was the writer's privilege to form her acquaintance when only a child of about 12 years; she was then quite susceptible of religious truth, and there were strong hop09 thai her heart would be given at that early lime oi life, unreservedly to Him who gave himself for her, and tlii.t by open profession she would assume her place in the Cliurcl of Christ to which she was strongly inclined, A lew yaais elapse audthe writer being returned to the same charge, finds this interesting child, presiding gracefully over her own household, where she had few equals ami stl.l fewer superiors. On the holy ?>abhath she was found in the house of the l.oril. in our 6 <buaMi school, she will be sadJy missed, for she was not only j present, but the Hiblc lesson presented to her mind attractions that count not be ignored; while with book in hand she turned patiently to each passage deveioi>ed in the instructions of the day, till their precious tiuihs mc. me her | own. To the preaching of the word there was a respectful attention, that bordered closely on that seriousness manifested by those who are concerned for their salvation. Tlu poor too, have sustained great loss by her death, for she was a Dorcas indeed, in her daily disitihutiou of comforts to the comfortless; many of whom, will miss sadly her kind Ivcait, and benevolent hand, Willi these development* of external Christian character w e may loudly trust that she accepted, and was made savingly acquainted w itli the dear Jiedtemer, though svveie convulsions in Iter hist illness prevented her from leaving that pi easing testimony in words, but site is gone, and in her we liave lost, the obedient uaughter, the affectionate sister, the loviwj w ite, and a uohle specimen of woman gentleness and hindness. but we cannot dismiss toe subject, without bearing testimony to her domestic economy and felicity. liur home could liotiie ot herwise than happy, lb.' head, li a.t jU|d lVt;ds, were alt actively engaged 10 make was filled with her household alH^rou \ btiug them to complete success H . whest ambition.
