of Ike family. Mr. Todd's account of it is
that they came to his house after moon down,
and after the family had retired to bod and

premises. They oalled to him and with caws
a..d threats demanded his geld and silver.
His gun was not loaded and ol no service, hut
ho tried to delay complying with t heir demands
as long as possible with the hope that somo*
thing might turn up to frustrate their designs'
but they became more determined, and comnienccd
striking matches, threatening to set
lire, to the h uise and shoot every one who attempted
to escape, at the same time shooting
his dog. On opening the. door ho saw four
men w ith guns stationed at the corners of 1
the house, but could not see well enough to I
distinguish whether they were black or white;
