adopted:
Whereas, It is evident thai the liepublican
party is in such a minority
in this county as to render it certain
that no strictly Uepnblican ticket for
county officers can be nominated by
them \yilh any chance ol success at
the ballot box; and whereas ii is to
the interest of the colored people ol
this county that the most competent,
libei al and trustworthy candidates
shall be elected to the various county
offices to be tilled at. the nest election;
therclorc, l>c it resolved by
this convention that we will make no
parly nominations, ImiI that, we will
use our best etlorts fit the ballot-box
iu November next to secure the election
of such men from among the candidates

our voice against Mr. Newton, hut
we know him too well to he willing to

And even if these considerations are
not sullicicnt to receive a proper consideration

stand firmly, as she ever has done
since the war, in the support of the
Conservative nominations, if .Mr. Newton
is nominated for olliee, she will

a terrible conflict between the whites
and blacks. Fighting has been going
on at intervals since Wednesday. Friday
morning the negroes shot Fred,

has been going on ever since. The
negroes are fortilied in the residence ol
Hon. William Sellers. It is thought
that two oi them were killed this
evening and several wounded. The
whites set lire to an out house, near
Sellers', tor the purpose of burning out
