Want ol time prevents our publishing,

on this trial. We shall publish it in

The examination ol the witnesses
was long and searching, and on the part

w;is rigorous and exhaustive.
\'he hearing of the evidence occupied
the whole day.
On Thursday morning the arguments

the jury a lew minutes before ? o'clock,
and in about two hours the verdict
was agreed upon. The prisoner was
again brought from his cell to the bar
to receive the verdict of the jury.
Though the hall was well crowded
,vhen the jury was being polled, the
death-like silence seemed an awful
pressure upon every one, as though
theii hearts, in suffocation, had ceased
to beat. ITpon the reading of the
verdict the prisoner, who hail borne
hiinsel! firmly up to that time, silently
sank down as one whose last hope
and last nerve had been exhausted in
a mighty struggle.

On Friday morning the prisoner
was brought into Court anil placed in
the dock to rccoiovc his .sentanoc. Ho
looked pule, dejected and nervous, but
the eolor soon came to his face again;
he stood grasping tlie front rail of the
dock, and his head bowed. On being
asked by the Judge il he had anything
to say why the aentanco of the law
should not be passed upon him, he
raised his head slightly, and answered
firmly, "not a word."
In the lecture, before passing sentence,
tbo Judge told the prisoner
that, tbe lecture could do him no good
in enabling liini to reform and become
a belter man in this world, for here
bis days were numbered, but that it
might, have some efleet on others, and
lie hoped it would cause him to see
his awful condition, and aid in leading
him to reform for the next world;

for the violated lawn ot God there was

the Judgo^read the following sentance
of the. Court:
It being solemnly demanded of the

The I.:i*t hilt Concert Postponed.
The announcement of live postponement

Public Library of Kentucky will not

gives reason for it which will he a,o copied

have not waited until the last
day to make this announcement, but,
just, as soon as they become satisfied
of the necissity of this postponement,
have nromplly made the announcement.
It. is unncssary to review the
causes which have necesitated this action,
as they are lul^y recited in Governor

The announeement of the postpone-.
; ment of the fifth and last concert of
the Public Library ot Kentucky to
the JKHh November, I am satisfied,
will surprise few and disaapoint none
I of the friends and patrons of the
enterprise. Indeed, any other course
j would create dissatisfaction. With a
I precedent of a postponement of each
' of the four concerts which have already
been given, the public have very
naturally and reasonably expected
that in this, by far the largest scheme
ot the series and the largest ever offered
to the world, the same course'
would be followed, and there are lliousI
ands all over the country who arc only
waiting for the setting of a certain
fixed day lor the drawing before send
mg in incir orders, The sales of tick-?
ots to this dato have been highly sat*
islactory, and a large drawing might
be had on the 31st duly, but feeling
asssuivd that a short postponement
I would enable us to close out the remainder
ol the tickets and make the
drawing a full one, we have adopted i
the course which has evidently been
anticipated, and which must eventuate
most satisfactorily lor all.
Now that the drawing is absolutely
dc'ermiimd, there remains na lut'ther
occasion for delay, and I would urgo
tlie friends of the enterprise, who intend
to purchase tickets, 10 send in
their orders, a* it will tax my otlieo to
its utmost capacity to accomplish all
that is to be done in the short time
which remains for the sale ol tickets.

While these are the leading
