Five months ago it grew worse
and confined him to bed. The physicians
decided that the only remedy

and on last Wednesday Or. Norton,
assisted by Kev. Mr. Wood, who is
also a medb-al graduate, amputated
the limb at the upper third ot the
thigh bone.
From last account tbe young man
is doing well and hopes arc entertained
of his recovery.

of the "balloon" that was found
in a treo in North Africa, and supposed
to have travelled southward
from France during the Franco-German
war, is founded on a typographical
error. The word should have been
printed "baboon."

The deceased was a native of Charleston,
and graduated at the Medical College in that
Citv, but his life long usefulness as a citizen
and a physician was spent in this county, lie
was one of our host citizens.

Assembly, to establish certain State Scholarships
in the University of South Carolina,
notice is hereby given that the comity Hoard
of Examiners will be convened at the Court
House in Conwnybono on Monday, the 7th
day of July next, and will hold a free competitive
exam'nation of those who desire to
avail themselves of the advantage ollered by
the said scholarship.
The applicant must be at least fifteen years
of age, nml must have a certificate of good,
moral character from his last teacher, lie
will aho be required to pass a satisfactory examination
in the usual English brunches,
and in Algabr.i up to radical quantities, and
must have some knowledge of Latin.
