Homicide.?On last Sunday, in the
store of Mr. Diehard .Ionian fourteen j
miles from this place, Ileurv Denton
atobbed and instantly killed Captain
Henry Allbriton, the clerk of Mr.

he lived, about fifty yards off, and
burred himself in, then placing his gun j
on the bed he laid down and went to
bleep, here he was guarded by Mr. !

This celebration by tho Sunday School
scholars and teachers ol' both churches in this
town, joined in by sonic of the scholars and
teachers of the IJuck.svillo church, took place
on last Friday, loth iust.
At 0 o'clock a. m., the children, parents
and teachers assembled at the I'rcsby'.erian
church, where they arranged in order to inarch
to the Methodist church. The little girls
dressed in white, decorated in tray ribbons
and flowers, the little hoys so neat and tidy,
evidenced that each little fellow had freshly
escaped from a prou 1 mother's hands. As
they passed they excited the admiration of all.
We do not recollect, ever witnessing so
many happy little laces in one assemblage as
met in the Methodist church on this occasion.
The audience, composed of tire citizens of
the town and surrounding country, was quite

were given, the most of which were spoken in
a distinct auditdo voice, and with a glow of
enthusiasm, that gave evidence of ranch J

youths on this occasion when all did so well.

struck with the appropriateness of the address
on early knowledge, and the manly chaste
style in which it was delivered by l-aac Sollets,
as also the very handsome style and appropt
iateness of language in which the four
seasons were repiesonted by four Misses.
The exercises closed with an address by
A>ir. rem urvan, Editor of the Marion Observer.
This address was, indeed, the opening
of a casket filled with jewels of thought,
words (d cheer and encouragement to both
teachers and children.
Temporary tables were erected under the
oaks, which the kind ladies spread with a
bountiful collation. After attending to creatine
comf rts the company dispersed, to spend
the rest of the day in music and social enjoyment.
If wc indulged in f< s!ive days oftencr, our
young people would he less disposed to vice,
and more disposed to cultivate the graces and
merits of civilized people.

On Thursday, tins Lecturer organized a

furnished with a list of the ollhvrs, or the
name of the Orange. '1 he citizens of Bull
Creek, determined never to he behind any
other section of Lie; county in any progressive

made application lor a Orange to ho organized
at Bull Creek. Owing to previous appointments
it was impossible for the Lecturer to
comply with their request at. the present time; ,
