A recent article in the Republican shnwiug our need for a national bauk has stirred up the righteous wratn or the Reverend Sperry, inspector, etc., of the Freedman's Savings bank. Wis fimusing card begins hy denying that accommodations to business men are refused by the bank, and in his next paragraph he asserts that no more money can be loaned in Beaufort. We did not go out of our Way to attack the present or past management of the bank, cither here or elsewhere. We stated what is true in regard toil, that it is now of very little U3C to the business community and that no assistance can be expected from it toward bandling our crops, or conducting our lumber, phosphate, railroad aud commission business this fall. Mr. Sperry admits all that we asserted ou this point. He wonders that we have not before discovered something rotten in the management. We reply that from the time it passed under the control of Alvord and b:s satelitcs, we have distrusted it. Nor arc we tjie only once. Started at a time when an} tiling lor the aid of the frcedman enlisted the I sympathy of good men, this institution J drew, to it many of them. Where are they now? C. i Wilson, Hnu uwicra uatv mtuu their names, disgusted and alarmed at the character of the men who, by pandering to tho vanity of colored men and alliances with (-peculating phiianthroflrets have usurped its management. Cougi ess at its last session discovered something rotten in its management, and ordered an investigation, at the same tirno passing an act forbidding the use of the word "national" in connection with its title. For rcfjiiULrio publish ?-ftrtreTflKr garbled statemcut of the results of'ihat investigation, the Reverend Sperry withdrew his advertisement from the JIbpuhlican' last spring.
