The celebrated author, iQ this admira

thirty years' successful practice, thatth
alarming consequences of such errors an

mode of cure at once simple, certain, an

THE CAUSE AND CURE OF CONSUMPTION:
-The primary cause of Consumption la derange ent
of the digestive organs. This derangement
produces deficient nutrition and assimilation. By
Hsimiiatlon I mean that process by which the nurlment
of the food is converted into blood, and
hence Into the solids of the body. Persons with
llgestion thus impaired, having the slightest prellsposltlon
to pulmonary disease, or if they take
?ld, will be very liable to have Consumption of
he Lungs In some of its forms; and I hold that it
vill be impossible to cure any case of Consumption
vlthout first restoring a good digestion and healthy
bsslmllation. The very first thing to be done Is to
;Ieanse the stomach and bowels from all diseased
nucus and slime, which is clogging these organs so
hat they cannot perform their functions, and then
ouse up and restore the liver to a healthy action,
for this purpose the surest and best remedy is
Ichenck's Mandrake Pills. These Pills clean the
tomach and bowels of all the dead and morbid
lime that is causing disease and decay in the whole
ystem. They will clear out the liver of all diseased
die that has accumulated there, and rouse it up to
i new and healthy action, by which natural and
lealthy bile is secreted.
The stomach, bowels, and liver are thus cleansed
?y the use of 8chenck*s Mandrake Pills; but there
emalns in the stomach an excess of add. the
irgan is torpid and the appetite poor. In the bown?A
maolf on/4 eoAilirlnff ttPOnOlll
IB vuu laticato ate vvvua, ouu ?? v-D>md
support It Is in a condition like this that
Ichenck's Seaweed Tonic proves to be the most
aluable remedy ever discovered. It ia alkaline,
,nd its use will neutralize all excess of acid, makug
the stomach sweet and fresh; it will give pernanent
tone to this Important organ, and create
. good, hearty appetite, and prepare the system
or the first process of a good digestion, and
iltimately make good, healthy, living blood,
liter tills preparatory treatment, what remains
o cure most cases of Consumption Is the free
,nd persevering use of Schenck's Pulmonic Syrup.
;he Pulmonic Syrup nourishes the system, puriles
the blood, and is readily absorbed into the
irculatlon, and thence distributed to the diseased
anga. There it ripens all morbid matters, whether
o the form of abscesses or tubercles, and then
aslsts Nature to expel ail the diseased matter, in
he form of free expectoration, when once it ripens,
t is then, by the great healing and purifying
iropertics of Schenck's Pulmonic Svrup, that all
ilcers and cavities arc healed up sound, and my
latient is cured.
The essential thing to be done in curing Conumption
is to get up a good appetite and a good
igestion, so that the body will grow in flesh-and
et strong. If a person has diseased lungs,?a
avity or abscess there,?the cavity cannot heal, the
uiitter cannot ripen, so long as the system is below
iar. What is necessary to cure is a new order of
lilngs,?a good appetite, a good nutrition, the body
0 grow in flesh ar.d get fat; then Nature is helped,
he cavities will heal, the matter will ripen and be
brown off In large quantities, and the person
ogaiii health and strength. This is the true and
nly plan to cure Consumption, and if a person is
er'y bad. If the lungs are not entirely destroyed,
r ?ven if oue lung is entirely gone, if there is
nougli vitality lelt m the other to heal up, there is
1 ope.
I have seen many persons aired with only one
nund lung, live and enjoy life to a good old age.
'Ills Is what Schenck's Medicines will do to cure
Consumption. They will clean out the stomach,
woeten and strengthen It, get up a good digestion,
nd give Nature the assistance she needs to clear
tie system of all the disease that is in the lung3,
whatever the form may be.
It is important that while using Schenck's Medlines,
care should be exercised Dot tc take cold;
eep fn-doors iu mid and damp weather; avoid
iglit air. and take out-door exercise only in a
eiiial ana warm sunshine.
I wish it distinctly undeiatood that when I recomnend
a patient to be careful in regard to taking
old, while using my Medicines, I doso for a special
eri-sou. A man who has but partially recovered
rom the effects of u bad cold is far more liable to
ri^?p*e than one who has been entirely cured:
ndit Is precisely the same in regard to Oonsumplou.
So long as the Jungs are not perfectly healed,
ust so long is there imminent danger of a full reurn
of the disease. Hence it is that I so strenuusly
caution pulmonary patients against exposing
lieiiiselves to an atmosphere that ia not genial ana
leiiKant. Confirmed Consumptives' lungs are a
nass of sores which the least change of ntmoslicre
will inflame. The grand secret of my sticess
with my Medicines consists in my ability to
uhdiie inflammation instead of provoking it, as
uany of the faculty do. An Inflamed lung cannot,
pith safety to tin* patient, be exposed to the biting
lasts of Winter or the chlllinc winds of Pprhig
r Autumn. It should be carefully shielded from
11 Irritating influences. The utmost caution
hould t?e observed iu this particular, as without it
core under almost iniv circumstances is an itnpos
iblllty.
The person should be kept on a wholesome and
lutritious diet, and all the Medicines continued
ntil the body has restored to it the natural quantity
f flesh and strength.
