book case, which came to him as

the Union League club.
, The letters, Fowler said, were
written to his grandfather, who was
r president of the Central Union
1. Trust company, and at the time was
f in charge of a "dollar fund" which
- collected $10,747 for Lincoln's
n widow.
l" The first letter, dated the day
after Christmas, 1865 and signed
Mary Lincoln, said in part:
"We are homeless, and in return
e for the sacrifices my great and
e noble husband made iboth in his life
e and in his death, the paltry first
years salary is offered to us, under 1
the circumstances.
"Such injustice has been done us
as calls the Mush of any true, loyal
heart. The sum is in reality only
$20,000 as the first month's salary
was paid my husfoand, and I pre^
sume the tax on it will be deducts
ed from it. The interest on it will ]
be about $1,500. I am humiliated ,
when I think that we are destined

an extended visit to her mother

gave a supper at the Warrenton
school Friday night. Mrs. F W. Wilson
won the prize for the prettiest
cake, Mrs. J. E. Palmer won the
prize for the :best tasted cake.
Nineteen dollars was taken in. It
will go for the benefit of the
school.
John Allen Wilson, Frank and
Eakin McNeill, Auburn and Allie
Mae Ashley have been absent this
week from school from sickness.
Mrs. J. S. Boles and brother, J.
D. McNeill spent Friday night in
Danburg with Dr. R. J. McNeill.
Mr. G. S. Wilson wiLl leave Wednesday
for Augusta, Ga., to spend
Christmas with his son and daughter.

FIFTY YEARS MARRIED '
Mr. and Mrs. J. K. Durst of
Greenwood, who are well known in
Abbeville, celebrated their golden
wedding at their home Sunday.
They spent the day quietly, having
only their immediate family with
them. Thej| have five living! children
thirteen grand children and eight
!?reat grand children.

sausage and roll. The Abbeville Bakery
supplies the roll, two thousand
being the largest number supplied
in one day.
SHIPPING PEAS
Williston, which has gained fame
as a market for home grown asparagus,
has turned its attention
to cowpeae and ali-eady something
over twenty car loads of peas have
been shipped from that point. The
buyers put up a lively bidding and
the prices are good.
