CELEBRATING THE DAY.
An effort is being made to make
December 28th, President Wilson's
56th birthday, celebrated over the
:ountry, to emphasize the completion
of the Wilson Foundation Fund,
relegrams are being sent out from

MRS. SMITH ENTERTAINS
Mr and Mrs. Maxewll Smith gave
a very .pleasant partjj at their home
on Wardlaw street Saturday night
in honor of Miss Kate Haskell
whose marriage to Prof. Smith will
be celebrated on Thursday. Mrs.
Smith invited in a dozen congenial
friends and bridge was enjoyed at
the three tables. The House was
made festive in decorations of
Christmas holly and the birde's
chair was a thing of beauty? in its
bows of white maline. After the
games a salad and sweet course
was served with coffee.
"Irs. Smith presented the bride
with' a dainty bud vase as a souvenir
of the occasion.

MRS. REESE ENTERT1ANS
Mrs. Fuller Reese gave a delightful
party Saturday afternoon
in honor of Miss Kate Haskell one
of the brides of the month. The
Christnms spirit was emphasized in
the decorations of holly and mistletoe
and in the souvenirs the coming
happiness of the young couple was
kept in mind. These souvenirs were
miniature baskets filled with almonds
and the ring shaped handles
tied with maline bows in which
nestled a kewpie bride. A dozen
friends of the honoree were invited
and bridge was played.
Aftr the games a salad course
with sweets v<as served. On the
bride's plate was a heart shaped
box of rice on which stood a kewpie
doll dressed as a bride. Miss
Haskell was presented with a
dainty handkerchief by the hostess.
FOR MISS BARKSDALE
Mrs. Frank Welsh entertained
Friday afternoon at a large party
as a compliment t<* her sister, Miss
Winona Barksdale and to Mrs. W.
H. Ehigan, a recent bride. The
Welsh home was gay in bowls of
narcissus and vases of poinsettas.
The guests were received in the hall
by Mrs. Welsh and the two honorees
and Mrs. J. D. Bundy who came
down from Monroe for the afternoon.
Little Winona Welsh distributed
favors which were attractive
contrivances of candy tied
with green maline to represent a
corsage and from this was suspended
a bride tally card.
There were eight taibles of players
who enjoyed the games of
bridge and afterwards the lovely
salad course served.
Mrs. Welsh was assisted in entertaining
by Mrs. W. E. Leslie, Jr.,
and Mrs. Wilson Johnson.
A CHRISTMAS HOUSE PARTY
Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Bowie will
entertain a pleasant party of young
folks at their home In the Hatwood
section during the holidays.
They will have as their guests Miss
Alice Thomson of Huntsboro, Ala.,
L. N. Thomson of Mt. Vernon, Ga.,
Miss Mary Lou Bowie of Hamlet,
N. C., Miss Nannie1 Bowie of Greenville,
J. L. Watson, Jr., of Atlanta
and J. C. Padgett of Beaufort. The
young people will enjoy hunting in
the day time and parties and love
making at night.
Mrs. Henry C. Riely, who has
been with her sister, Mrs. Frank B.
Gary since Judge Gary's death, has
returned to her home in Richmond,
Va.
Spencer May, who works at the
Seaboard, goes to school, plays
