Memphis, Oct. 26.?After five veeks and three days effort during vhich the criminal court here has >ee<n in session every week day. the tate expects before tonight to com >lete the jury which is to try Frank i. Miller, Seth W. 'Poston, Charles ft. Mosk, and Albert Johus, strikng railroad shopmen on a charge if murder in connection with the atal' wounding of Charles Lanier, l shop employ early in September. The effort to secure a jury holds ha record in the state as far as the lumber of venirmen examined is oncerned, according to court offiials. To date more than 5,600 venremen have been called and examr>ar\ A ftp,. the few davs. a snecial cnire was summoned each day. At rst it was of 100 men, \ then of 00 , and during the last ten days, 00 men have been summoned for ury duty almost daily. Of the sixty peremptory challenes allowed the defense only twelve emain, while the state still holds ix of the 23 allowed it. Itate of South Carolina, COUNTY OF ABBEVILLE Notice is hereby given that the' Jeneral Election for State and Couny Officers will be held at the voting* recincts prescribed by law in said ounty, on Tuesday, November 7, 922, said day being Tuesday folowing the first Monday in Novem>er, as prescribed by the State Contitiltion. The qualification for suffrage: Managers of election require of very elector offering to vote at any lpption. before allowing him to ote, the production of his registraion certificate and proof of the pay? nent of all taxes, including poll ax, assessed against him and colectible during the previous year. The roduction of a certificate or of the eceipt of the officer authorized to ollect such taxes, shall be concluive proof of the payment thereof. Section 237, Code of 1912, as mended by Act. tJo. 6, special sesion of 1914. Section 237. There shall be three eparate and distinct ballots, as ollows: One ballot for Representaives in Congress; and one ballot for Jovernor, Lieutenant Governor, !tate officers, Circuit Solicitors, nembers of the House of Represenatives, State Senator, county offic:rs, and one ballot for all Constituional amendments and special quesions, each of three said boxes tr> be ppropriately labelled; which ballots hall be of plain white paper and of uch width and lengih as to contain he names of the officers and quesion or questions to be voted for or ipon, clear and even cut, without irnament, designation, mutilation, ymbol or mark of anv kind whatoever, except the name or names of he person or persons voted for and he office to which such person or >ersons are intended to be chosen, md all special questions which name >r names, office or offices, question >r questions shall be written or )rinted or partly written or partly jrinted thereon in black ink; and uch ballot ba so folded as to conceal he name or names, question or luestions thereon, and so - folded, hall be deposited in a box to be :onstructed, kept and disposed of is herein provided by law, and no jallot of any other description ound in either of said boxes shall be ounted. Before the hour fixed for opening ,he polls, Managers and Clerks must o and subscribe the Constitutionil oath. The Chairman of the Board )f Managers can administer the >alh to the other members and to the ~lerk; a Notary Public must adminster the oath to the Chairman. The Managers elect their Chairman and :icrk. Polls at each voting place must be jpencd at 7 o'clock a. m. and closed at 4 o'clock p. m. except in the City j of Charleston, where they shall be opened at 7 a. m. and Closed at 6 p. m. The Managers have the power to fill a vacancy, and if none of the Manage!s attend, the citizens can appoint from among the qualified voters, the Managers, who, after being sworn, can conduct the election. At the close of the election, the Managers and Clerk must proceed publicly to open the ballot boxes and count the ballots therein, and continue without adjournment until the same is completed, and make a statement of the result for each office and sign the same. Within three days thereafter, the Chairman of the Board, or some one designated by the Board, must deliver' to the Commissioners of Election the poll list, the boxes -containing the ballots and written statements of the results of the election.
