Washington, Sept. 21?An emergency appropriation of $200,000 for relief of Amarican refugees in the Near East was recommended to the senate today by President Harding after receipt of an official statemen: from the state department that 1,000 Americans were in pressing need of assistance. Senate leaders plan to add the item to the pending deficiency appropriation bill. Quick action by the house also was indicated. Acting Secretary Philips sent to the White House today detailed reports which reached tho sta<te department from American officials in the Near East. Consul General Horton in reporting his arrival at Piraeus from Smyrna with 150 destitute Americans said about 350 more American re?fuges were expected and Consul Moms telegraphed from Salonifci that 600 destitute American and Greek refugees had arrived from Smyrna. v* * ^ SHARON V \ > iVVVVVVVVVVVVV Mrs. Ada McNeill and children, visited Mrs. W. He will also coach the football team there. Mr. Paul Knox, another of Sharon's young men, is teaching at Spartanburg his school having begun over two weeks ago. He graduated at Wofford last session. We are so glad to say that it was at "I'd Sharon School," that Mr. Williams first began to master the intricacies of "Reading, writing and rilhmetic." ? Mr. J. D. McNeill has returned to C. A. C. to resume his studies after a ten days vacation witn nis noma people. Mr. and Mrs. W. I. Herbert of Newberry, visited their daughter, Mrs. Charlie Gilliam last week.
