The town is lonely without them, we miss their happy faces and sight for the sound of their merry voices. Greenwood; Miss Pauline Clinkscales, Greenwood city (schools; Miss Kathleen Cooley. Dallas, N. C.; Miss Christine Kay, Hick jory, N. C.; Miss Emma Bell, Pemi broke,'N. Barnes: Miss Bessie Fic Jquette has entered the eleventh grade in Anderson cityy schools. Miss I Pauline Ballenger has gone to Wal|ha!la to enter the high school at that place. On the 19th inst. Misses Alpha Barnes and Georgia Harper will enter the senior class at Win thropt college. Miss /Lucille Kirkpatrick will enter the sophomore class at Winthrop college, and Miss Zelpha Hardin will enter the junior ips at Coker college. On last Thursday the children of Capt. and Mrs. Weston Harper celebrated their mother's birthday by a home coming of all the family except r. Holcombe Harper, of Worchester, Mass., and Mr. George Harper, of Bonami, La. A most delightful course dinner and served and a happy day spent in sweet communion. Dr. Kirkpatrick has made exten sive improvements on his home and grounds. A porte cochere has been erected, brick walks laid, the dwelling freshly painted and other chang es that add greatly to the beauty of .he place. The Doctor is getting ready for the home-ooming of his family about November 1st. Dr. and Mrs. JJ. B. Kay, of By:cn, Va., have been spending a few days at the home of his sister, Mrs. Mark Speer. He came to see his mother, who greatly improved. She has accompanied him home and will spend the winter at Byron. Mrs. J. W. McWhorter and daughter, Miss Elizabeth, of Atlanta, are guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ellis HuckaJbee. Dr. and Mrs. Curtis Fennell and Curtis III 01 ADDeviue, were pieaaant visitors during the week. H. Agnew returned on Mon day from a few days visit to friends in Rock Hill, S. C. Miss Louise Pones, of Camden, Ala., arrived last Saturday to begin work in the Due West graded school. She will be on the faculty for the school year. Mr. W. B. Evans, former Erskine student who is to teach this year in McColl, S. C., spent the week-end in Due West. Miss Lois Pressly and Miss Mildred McCain left for Anderson on last Saturday where they will have a position in the city schools for the coming year. Misses Josie and Susie Nance left Due West this week for Statesville where they will have a position in the public (school. (Miss iSujsi^ taught there last year. Rev. and Mrs. N. E. Smith left for Bartow, F'a., last week after a vacation spent in Due West and the mountains of North Carolina. Mr. Smith preached several times for his former charge at Bradley, S. C. Miss Barabra Grier returned home last week from a visit to friends in Chester. She also attended the Pressly-Hamilton wedding in States! ville, being a bride's maid for the occasion. Mr. R. A. Willis, Jr., arrived in Due West last week and spent a few days with friends. He returned on Tuesday his mother and his sister, Mrs. J. C. Todd accompanying him to Edgemoor. Marriage A La Mode. An old Chinese custom requires that the suitor give his tiancee a delicate cup and saucer as a- betrothal gift. She sips tea from it daily until her marriage. Carter, of Ehrhardt are guests of Mrs. Gamewell Huckabee. Mrs. Wm. Taggart and little daughter after an extended visit to her father, Mr. H. C. Tennant have 'returned to their home in New Orleans. Mr. and Mrs. 'Caleb C^inkscales are spending this week at Rivercresl Farm with Mrs. R. E. Clinkscales. Prof John Frank Harper has gone to Raleigh, N C. to represent Abbeville county at the Calhoun Highway conference.
