Julia and Benjamin Barnwell cele brated their birthdays yesterday af ternoon. The birthdays fell on the same day, though three years apart. They invited about twelve of their little neighborhood friends in to en joy the party. The birthday cake was cut on the lawn and ice cream served. Many games were played to the delight of the young folks. A BRIDGE PARTY. __Misses Annie and Virginia Wilson entertained about twenty of their friends at a pleasant bridge party last Friday afternoon. The Wilson home on Chestnut Avenue was pret tily decorated with cut flowers. Af ter the games of cards were over, refreshments of salad and tea were served. This was one of the most pleasant entertainments of the sum mer. D. A. R. BALL. The Abbeville Chapter of the ^ Daughters of the American Revolu-1 tion are making arrangements to give j a grand ball at the Eureka Hotel' September the 8th The last Ball given at the Country Club by the Daughters was such a success in every way that this Dance at the Eureka is being looked forward to by the young people of the city. There will be orchestra music and everything that goes to make a dance a success. SURPRISE PARTY. The Misses Smart, Laurens Brown and Roy Moore brought Miss Eliza beth McMurray down from Black Mountain yesterday by automobile. It was a delightful surprise party ar riving just in time for supper, which "hey took with Dr. and Mrs. C. H. McMurray. SPRAINS AN ANKLE. Mrs. Alma C. Gibbons, the Home Demonstration Agent, had the mis fortune to sprain an ankle Monday, and has been forced to use a pair of crutches when carrying on her work. She is looking after her work even though disabled.
