Abbeville itook the first game by the score of j 6 to 1 while the other game went ,to Greenwood by the score of 3 to 2. j Ethridge started the first game for Greenwood but he didn't stay in there long for Abbeville made two 'runs off his delivery before Boyd ;relieved him retiring the side. Boyd o rrnnA cramp -for Orppri wr>nH but used too much style. ! Allen pitched both games for Ab beville and pitched fine ball, Green wood getting only twelve hits in both games, five in the first and sev !en in the second. He kept the hits i well scattered in both games. Errors by the infield lost the second game for Abbeville. | Andrews pitched the second game ^or Greenwood, pitching himself out of several bad holes. Abbeville came mie-htv near win ning the second game in the ninth 'inning, when with one out Reames (and Erwin each singled. Agnew struck out. Brownlee then hit for | |B. Galloway, hitting the longest ball that has ever been knocked on the diamond, but he could not run and i made only a triple out of it. Milam hitting for Scoggins went out on strikes. If old Sal Brownlee had not been running so fast lately in the legis lative race, thus breaking himself down, he would have made six bases on that hit he made in the ninth. Andrews is a heady young pitch, er. He won his game Friday by su perior work in the box. He will be a dangerous man to face in the col lege games next spring. Col. Shortstop Leaman, of the Green wood team, made a fine catch in the first game. It was a line drive over his head. He leaped into the air and nailed it. Walter Sherard always "hollered" before Eugene Galloway caught the ball, because he knew what Eugene would do. Old man Sam Hodges of Green wood who has been to Massip, All bam, and even to Fluridy, was over for the game and said it was a great game. The commission then will give Germany some days of respite for the payment of the 50,000,000 gold marks due August 15 on debts of al lied nationals. PRESIDENT ADDS TO DIFFICULTIES. Gompers Thinks Harding Selects Unfortunate Time for Deliv ery of Message. Washington, Aug. 20.?Samuel Gompers, president of the American Federation of Labor, expressed the opinion today that President Hard ing had added to the difficulties of tho present industrial situation 'by his message of yesterday and like wise had chosen an unfortunate time for its delivery. The labor chief, in a critical dis cussion of the president's mes sage announced that his organization would oppose any legislation carry ing out the suggestions that the railroad labor board be given power to enforce its decisions or to allow the federal government to punish crimes against aliens such as those alleged to have 'been committed during the Herrin, 111., massacre, while he described the president's F proposals for legislation to control coal distribution as "probably im- j practical."
