MARRIED. Miss Minnie Ruth Cox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Cox of this city and Mr. Ben Thomerson of Laurens, were married at the home of the bride's parents at '2 o"clocl< today by the Rev. H. L. Weeks. Only the family and near friends were present at the ceremony. FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH. Rev. H. L. Weeks, pastor, has sent in the following announcements: Pastor will preach Sunday at 11 a", m., the subject "The Positiveness of the Divine Life." The 8:30 p. m. service will be the usual 4th Sunday union service, will be held at the A. R. P. church. The Sunday School is seeking to keep the average up to 200 during July and August. All the teachers and pupils are urged to cooperate in this effort. The teachers are special ly urged to look after the absentees. The program will be in charge of group No. 3 All the young people of the church are urged to attend and participate in these services, The prayermeeting of the church has kept up remarkably well this summer. It is the aim of the pastoi to interest every resident memDer 01 the church in this service. The a.t tendance on last Wednesday was a bout 70. The reports of the church's vari ous activities for the second quarter of the year as read to the church on last Sunday, were very gratifying. There have been ten additions to the church. The total contributions of the church, not including the Sunday School gifts nor what was given or the $75,000,000 campaign was about $1300.00. It is necessary for the church to raise about $1200 each quarter to amply take care of our expenses. This can easily be done by each member promptly paying his subscription. | qociETV | I HONORING MRS. MARCHANT. Mrs. D. H. Hill gave a party last night in honor of Mrs. T. M. Mar chant of Greenville. There were two tables of players present and a most enjoyable evening was spent over the games and in congenial conversation. The following were invited to be present: Misses Mary Smith, Blanche Reep, and Mrs. Marchant; Messrs. Joel and Albert Morse, W. D. Wilkin son and Owen Speed. After the games Mrs. Hill served ne of her elaborate suppers. FOR THE VISITORS. Mrs. C. D. Brown gave a charming card party Wednesday afternoon at v.o*. iinnnc nn Nr?rhh Main street, in. viting her friends to meet her visit ors, Mrs. Wood and Mrs. Hanckle of Charleston, who are spending the week in the city. The hopse was prettily decorated in flowers, a vari ety of colors being used. Punch was served on the veranda by Mrs. C. D. Brown, Jr., and Misses Louise and Charlotte Brown, the bowl being surrounded by a mass of sunflowers. Nine tables were arranged for the players and a series of lively and in teresting games were played. Pink and white cream and cake were serv ed at the close of the games. i MRS. MRS. HARPER ENTERTAINS. Mrs. W. G. Harper entertained j twelve friends this morning at bridge as a compliment to her friends Mrs. Wood and Mrs. Hanckle, who are visiting in the city. This party was given at the home of Mrs. J. C. Ellis where Mrs. Harper is spending the summer. Many pretty vases of flowers added their beauty and fra grance to the scene and the games were entertaining and very much enjoyed. A+ nnnn a salad course with tea and hot rolls were served. Mrs. Wood and Mrs. Hanckle were presented with dainty visitors prizes. DANCE TONIGHT Miss Willie Harrison is giving a dance tonight at the home of her sis ter, Mrs. Tom Harrison, in honor of ' Miss Stella Brown. Invitations have been issued to a large circle of friends and a delightful evening is anticipated. Mrs. Elizabeth Wardlaw died Jul 20th 1922, at her home in tf Bellevue section after a long illne: aggravated by the infirmities of ag she having passed her 81st birthdj on June 23rd. Mrs. Wardlaw was the daughti of Mr. and Mrs. Wideman and wj the youngest of a large family. SI married David Wardlaw and them were born eleven children, s of whom grew to man's estate. T1 children surviving are: Mally, wl married John T, TtpnneHv. Janie wl married Mr. S. P. Morrah, John I who married Miss Lillie Morrah, L< la, who married Jno. C Kennedy, Li zie who married C. J. Lyon, Add who married, J. H. Robinson; W- ^ who married Miss Annie Bradle Lillie who married W. D. Morra and Miss Emma Wardlaw who is u: married and has lived with her m ther. David a son, died several yea ago and Kitty, a daughter who ma ried J. T. Bradley died in Abbevil some years ago. The passing of Mrs. Wardla removes one of the landmarks this section for she has spent h "whole life among the people of A beville county. She knew the hi tory and# traditions of thie secti< and was an entertaining talker. SI has wielded a great influence in h family and among the people, wi whom she lived. For many years it h?.s been tl custom of all her children to gath around her and to make her birthdi the event of the ylar. It has alwa been a happy occasion for childre grand-children, great grandchildr and friends met together to do h honor.
